The CPAP apparatus also includes a base unit configured to a) receive the liquid storage container and b) securely and releasably connect to a CPAP unit of the CPAP apparatus, the base unit having a bottom portion to support the liquid storage container thereon, the bottom portion including a heating element configured to contact the heat conducting material of the liquid storage container when the liquid storage container is supported on the base unit. When the liquid storage container is received by the base unit, the liquid storage container and the base unit together define an airflow path through the humidifier assembly, an inlet of the airflow path being upstream of the liquid storage container and an outlet of the airflow path being downstream of the liquid storage container.

The CPAP apparatus of claim 1, wherein the liquid storage container is configured to be removed from the base unit without removing the humidifier base unit from the CPAP unit. 3. The CPAP apparatus of claim 1, wherein the inlet and the outlet of the airflow path are separate from the liquid storage container, and the outlet of the airflow path includes a connector to connect to an air delivery tube. 4. The CPAP apparatus of claim 1, wherein the inlet and the outlet of the airflow path are defined by the humidifier base unit. 5. The CPAP apparatus of claim 1, wherein a portion of the humidifier base unit intervenes between the inlet of the airflow path and the liquid storage container. 6. The CPAP apparatus of claim 1, wherein a portion of the humidifier base unit intervenes between the outlet of the airflow path and the liquid storage container. 7. The CPAP apparatus of claim 1, wherein the liquid storage container is configured to be removed from the humidifier base unit without removing the humidifier base unit from the CPAP unit, the inlet and the outlet of the airflow path are separate from the liquid storage container,the outlet of the airflow path includes a connector to connect with an air delivery tube,the inlet and the outlet of the airflow path are defined by the humidifier base unit,a first portion of the humidifier base unit intervenes between the inlet of the airflow path and the liquid storage container, anda second portion of the humidifier base unit intervenes between the outlet of the airflow path and the liquid storage container. 8. The CPAP apparatus of claim 1 further comprising: an air delivery tube configured to connect to the humidifier base unit. 9. The CPAP apparatus of claim 8, wherein the humidifier base unit is configured to directly dock with the CPAP unit by moving the humidifier base unit laterally toward the CPAP unit. 10. The CPAP apparatus of claim 9, wherein the outlet of the airflow path defined by the humidifier base unit and the liquid storage container is configured to connect to the air delivery tube, and the humidifier base unit and the liquid storage container are configured so that the outlet remains connected to the air delivery tube when the liquid storage container is removed from the humidifier base unit. 11. A CPAP apparatus comprising: a CPAP unit comprising a) a blower configured to pressurize respiratory gas and b) a respiratory gas connecting device;a liquid storage container configured to hold a body of liquid, the liquid storage container comprising a humidifying region above a metallic heat conducting material, the humidifying region being a region inside the liquid storage container in which the liquid is evaporated into the pressurized respiratory gas generated in the blower;a humidifier base unit comprising a respiratory gas connecting device having a complimentary configuration to the respiratory gas connecting device of the CPAP unit and being at the same vertical heightwise level as the respiratory gas connecting device of the CPAP unit when the humidifier base unit and the CPAP unit are on the same surface, the humidifier base unit being configured to receive the liquid storage container and, the humidifier base unit having a bottom portion to support the liquid storage container thereon, the bottom portion including a heating element configured to contact the heat conducting material of the liquid storage container when the liquid storage container is supported on the humidifier base unit;a securing device configured to rigidly secure the humidifier base unit to the CPAP unit when the respiratory gas connecting device of the humidifier base unit and the respiratory gas connecting device of the CPAP unit are moved completely into a joined position; andan airflow path defined by the liquid storage container and the humidifier base unit, the airflow path having an inlet and an outlet, the inlet and the outlet being configured to remain with the humidifier base unit when the liquid storage container is removed from the humidifier base unit. 12. The CPAP apparatus of claim 11, wherein the inlet and the outlet of the airflow path are separate from the liquid storage container and the outlet of the airflow path includes a connector to connect to an air delivery tube. 13. The CPAP apparatus of claim 11, wherein the inlet and the outlet of the airflow path are defined by the humidifier base unit. 14. The CPAP apparatus of claim 11, wherein a portion of the humidifier base unit intervenes between the inlet of the airflow path and the liquid storage container. 15. The CPAP apparatus of claim 11, wherein a portion of the humidifier base unit intervenes between the outlet of the airflow path and the liquid storage container. 16. The CPAP apparatus of claim 18, wherein the outlet of the airflow path defined by the humidifier base unit and the liquid storage container is configured to connect to the air delivery tube, and the humidifier base unit and the liquid storage container are configured so that the outlet remains connected to the air delivery tube when the liquid storage container is removed from the humidifier base unit. 20. A CPAP apparatus comprising: a CPAP unit comprising a) a blower configured to pressurize respiratory gas and b) an air outlet fluidly connected to an output of the blower;a base unit defining an air inlet and an air outlet, the base unit air inlet being at the same vertical heightwise level as the air outlet of the CPAP unit when the CPAP unit and the base unit are on the same surface, the base unit air inlet being configured to be directly connected to the air outlet of the CPAP unit, the base unit air outlet being configured to connect to an air delivery tube, the base unit comprising a bottom portion with a heating element; anda liquid storage container configured to a) hold a body of liquid, b) be supported on the bottom portion of the base unit and c) fluidly connect the base unit air inlet and the base unit air outlet when supported on the bottom portion of the base unit and secured to the base unit, the liquid storage container comprising a humidifying region above a metallic heat conducting material, the humidifying region being a region inside the liquid storage container in which the liquid is evaporated into the pressurized respiratory gas generated by the blower. 21. The CPAP apparatus of claim 20, wherein the liquid storage container is removable from the base unit. 22. The CPAP apparatus of claim 21, wherein the liquid storage container is configured to be removed from the base unit without removing the base unit from the CPAP unit. 23. The CPAP apparatus of claim 20, wherein the base unit air outlet includes a connector to connect to an air delivery tube. 24. The CPAP apparatus of claim 20, wherein the liquid storage container comprises an air inlet configured to automatically align with the base unit air inlet when the liquid storage container is received by the base unit and comprises an air outlet configured to automatically align with the base unit air outlet when the liquid storage container is received by the base unit. 25. The CPAP apparatus of claim 20, wherein the base unit comprises a first electrical connector and the CPAP unit comprises a second electrical connector configured to connect to the first electrical connector. 26. The CPAP apparatus of claim 25, wherein the first electrical connector and the second electrical connector are at the same vertical heightwise level when the CPAP unit and the base unit are on the same surface. 27. The CPAP apparatus of claim 20, wherein the heat conducting material is configured to thermally engage the heating element of the base unit when the liquid storage container is supported on the bottom portion of the heating element. 28. The CPAP apparatus of claim 20, wherein the liquid storage container is configured to be removed from the base unit without removing the base unit from the CPAP unit, the base unit air outlet includes a connector to connect to an air delivery tube,the base unit comprises a first electrical connector and the CPAP unit comprises a second electrical connector configured to connect to the first electrical connector,the first electrical connector and the second electrical connector are at the same vertical heightwise level when the CPAP unit and the base unit are on the same surface,andthe heat conducting material is configured to thermally engage the heating element of the base unit when the liquid storage container is supported on the bottom portion of the heating element. 29. The CPAP apparatus of claim 20 further comprising: the air delivery tube configured to connect to the base unit. 30.
