The disclosure relates to containers and other shaped articles (e.g., trays and dishes) for containing articles such as food products (e.g., cuts of meat and poultry or liquid-sensitive electronic parts) in shaped articles such as. In one aspect, the container has a reservoir portion into which liquid can be sequestered. In another aspect, the container includes a thermoformable substrate, a liner, and a lidding material, the lidding and the liner defining a compartment for containing articles. The compartment can be detached from the substrate by detaching the liner from the substrate without necessarily rupturing the compartment. A substantial portion of the containers described herein can be recycled by separating the liner and/or lidding from the substrate. The disclosure also relates to methods of making thermoformed articles having multiple layers that does not rely on use of a coextruded or other composite thermoplastic-containing substrate.

1. A shaped article comprising: a) a substrate sheet having a shape which includes i) a concave interior portion defining a lumen andii) a reservoir portion recessed away from and entirely within the interior portion; andb) at least one pliable, perforated liner sheet i) conforming to and being peelably adhered against the substrate sheet, other than at the reservoir portion, andii) bearing a perforation therethrough at the reservoir portion, whereby liquid in the lumen of the interior portion is able to traverse the liner sheet at the reservoir portion. 2. The article of claim 1, wherein the perforated liner sheet is peelably adhered against the substrate sheet across substantially the entire interior portion, other than at the reservoir portion. 3. The article of claim 1, wherein the interior portion includes continuous side walls that surround a substantially flat portion, the reservoir portion being situated within the substantially flat portion. 4. The article of claim 1, wherein the substrate sheet is thermoformable. 5. The article of claim 1, wherein the substrate sheet is a homopolymer sheet. 6. The article of claim 1, wherein at least one of a perforated liner sheet and the non-perforated liner sheet is a rapidly-quenched polymer sheet. 7. The article of claim 1, wherein each of the liner sheets each has a thickness of from about 1 mil to about 7 mils and the substrate sheet has a thickness of from about 10 mils to about 100 mils. 8. The article of claim 1, further comprising a non-perforated liner sheet interposed between the substrate sheet and a perforated liner sheet, the non-perforated liner sheet conforming to and being peelably adhered against the substrate sheet at the reservoir portion. 9. The article of claim 8, wherein each liner sheet, other than the non-perforated liner sheet, is peelably adhered against an underlying liner sheet and bears a perforation that fluidly communicates with the reservoir portion by way of the perforation in each underlying liner sheet. 10. The article of claim 8, having a liquid-exuding food product contacting the liner sheet. 11. The article of claim 10, further comprising a lidstock material that encloses the food product within a compartment defined by the lidstock material and the perforated liner sheet, the interior of the compartment being in fluid communication with the perforation. 12. The article of claim 11, wherein lidstock is attached to the non-perforated liner more tenaciously than the non-perforated liner is attached to the substrate sheet. 13. The article of claim 11, wherein the non-perforated liner can be peeled from the substrate sheet without rupturing the compartment. 14. The article of claim 1, having a liquid-exuding food product contacting the liner sheet. 15. The article of claim 14, further comprising a lidstock material that encloses the food product within the interior portion of the article. 16. The article of claim 15, wherein the lidstock and the perforated liner sheet are attached to one another about the periphery of the interior portion. 17. The article of claim 14, further comprising a lidstock material that encloses the food product within a compartment defined by the lidstock material and the perforated liner sheet, the interior of the compartment being in fluid communication with the perforation.
