The bracket assembly of claim 4, wherein the plurality of fingers of each protective grommet interlock to secure the protective grommets to each other. 6. The bracket assembly of claim 5, wherein the interlocked fingers of the bottom members create a channel for receiving the ladder rung. 7. The bracket assembly of claim 8, wherein the side wall of the metal bracket includes an opening with a projection. 12. The bracket assembly of claim 8, wherein the second member of the metal bracket having a distal end with an outwardly extending flange. 13.
