An improved solar panel attachment system for a roof and method for its use include a pedestal that has a plurality of protrusions and keyways located along its bottom wall surface and extending along the length of the pedestal. The pedestal is placed into a paddy of foam adhesive laid along a roof underlayment and the keyways receive and engage with the expanding adhesive for bonding the pedestal directly to the roof without the need for mechanical fastening. The protrusions provide spacing between the bottom wall surface and the roof so that an adequate amount of foam adhesive resides between these wall surfaces and those structures. Attaching means are secured to the top wall surface so that the pedestal may be used to securely mount (or secure) a solar panel or other object to a roof.

1. A system for mounting an object over a portion of a roof, the system comprising: a pedestal having a top wall and a bottom wall separated from one another by a side wall, at least a portion of the top wall being directly above the bottom wall;a plurality of channel tracks and keyways, the channel tracks and keyways extending substantially the length of said pedestal and located on said bottom wall, adjacent channel tracks in the plurality separated from one another by one of the keyways, the channel tracks and keyways being open in a same direction along the bottom wall to receive an adhesive; andattaching means on said top wall of said pedestal arranged for attaching the object to said pedestal;wherein no fastening means which penetrate a roof decking are needed to securely affix the pedestal to a roof underlayment located immediately above the roof decking. 2. A system according to claim 1 wherein the attaching means is a second plurality of channel tracks and keyways, the second plurality of channel tracks and keyways extending substantially the length of said pedestal and located on said top wall, adjacent channel tracks in the second plurality of channel tracks separated from one another by one of said keyways, the second plurality of channel tracks and keyways being open in a same direction along the top wall to receive an adhesive. 3. A system according to claim 2 wherein, for the second plurality of channel tracks and keyways, the keyways being open at same elevation than the channel tracks relative to the top wall. 4. A system according to claim 1 wherein the attaching means is a plate. 5. A system according to claim 1 wherein the object is a roofing material. 6. A system according to claim 1 wherein the object is a portion of a piece of roof mounted equipment. 7. A system according to claim 1 wherein the keyways are open at a same elevation than the channel tracks relative to the bottom wall. 8. A system for mounting or securing a piece of equipment above a roof, the system comprising: a longitudinally extending pedestal, a top wall and a bottom wall of the pedestal spaced apart from one another by a side wall;a plurality of keyways and channel tracks extending lengthwise along the bottom wall and being open in a same direction along the bottom wall to receive an adhesive;wherein no fastening means which penetrate a roof decking are needed to securely affix the pedestal to the roof.
