The present application relates to methods for maintaining core body temperature in a subject. Heat is applied to peripheral thermoregulatory control tissue of the subject to increase or maintain perfusion of blood in glabrous tissue of the subject, and a warming stimulus is applied to the glabrous tissue. The application of heat to the peripheral thermoregulatory control tissue occurs discretely and simultaneously with application of the warming stimulus to the glabrous tissue, without application of a heating device or a warming device to tissue other than the tissue subjected to the applied heat or to the applied warming stimulus, thereby maintaining the core body temperature of the subject.

1. A method for maintaining the core body temperature of a subject, comprising: applying heat from a heating device, wherein the heating device is positioned over the cervical spinal region of the subject, the lumbar spinal region of the subject, or both, such that the heating device applies heat localized to the cervical spinal region of the subject, the lumbar spinal region of the subject, or both, to cause heating of peripheral thermoregulatory control tissue located in the cervical spinal region of the subject, the lumbar spinal region of the subject, or both, wherein the applied localized heat increases or maintains perfusion of blood in glabrous tissue of the subject; andapplying a warming stimulus from a warming device to the glabrous tissue;wherein the heat is applied to the peripheral thermoregulatory control tissue located in the cervical spinal region of the subject, the lumbar spinal region of the subject, or both, simultaneously with application of the warming stimulus to the glabrous tissue, thereby maintaining the core body temperature of the subject. 2. The method according to claim 1, wherein the glabrous tissue is located in a palmar region of the subject. 3. The method according to claim 1, wherein the glabrous tissue is located in a plantar region of the subject. 4. The method according to claim 1, wherein the subject is subjected to a hypothermia inducing event or activity. 5. The method according to claim 1, further comprising assessing the temperature of the glabrous tissue, the peripheral thermoregulatory control tissue, or the core body temperature of the subject. 6. The method according to claim 1, wherein applying the warming stimulus to a portion of skin of the subject concurrently applies heat to the glabrous tissue. 7. The method according to claim 1, wherein applying heat to the peripheral thermoregulatory control tissue comprises applying heat localized to tissue overlying or proximate to the peripheral thermoregulatory control tissue within the cervical spinal region of the subject, the lumbar spinal region, or both of the subject. 8. The method according to claim 7, wherein the heating device is positioned on the skin to apply the heat localized to tissue overlying or proximate to the peripheral thermoregulatory control tissue within the cervical spinal region of the subject, the lumbar spinal region, or both of the subject. 9. The method according to claim 1, wherein applying warming to the glabrous tissue comprises applying warming to tissue overlying or proximate to the glabrous tissue, such that by applying warming to said overlying tissue or said proximate tissue, warmth is applied to the glabrous tissue.
