A system for determining whether an oilfield device is latched with a housing, comprising: a latch assembly positioned with the housing and configured to be latchable with the oilfield device, comprising: a retainer member configured to be movable between an unlatched position and a latched position; anda piston configured to move the retainer member to the latched position and the piston configured to allow the retainer member to move to the unlatched position; anda latch position indicator sensor positioned with the latch assembly and configured to transmit a signal of the position of the retainer member. 12. The system of claim 11, wherein the piston having an inclined surface, and the latch position indicator sensor is configured to determine the movement of the piston by measuring the distance from the sensor to the piston inclined surface. 13. The system of claim 11, wherein the latch position indicator sensor is an inductive sensor. 14. The system of claim 11, wherein the latch position indicator sensor is configured to determine the position of the retainer member by measuring the distance from the sensor to the retainer member. 15. The apparatus of claim 16, further comprising a line, wherein the signal is transmitted through said line to a remote location. 20. The system of claim 16, wherein the retainer member having an inclined surface, and the latch position indicator sensor is configured to determine the position of the retainer member by measuring the distance from the sensor to the retainer member. 21. A system for determining whether an oilfield device is latched with a latch assembly housing, comprising: a latch assembly disposed within the latch assembly housing and configured to be latchable with the oilfield device, comprising: a retainer member configured to be movable between an unlatched position and a latched position; anda piston configured to move the retainer member to the latched position and the piston configured to allow the retainer member to move to the unlatched position; anda latch position indicator sensor positioned with the latch assembly and configured to transmit a signal of the position of the retainer member. 22.
