In an embodiment, an orthopedic device in the form of a lumbar support includes first and second elongate belt members, an anatomically shaped plate, and a closure system connecting the belt members to the plate. The closure system is arranged to move the belt members relative to the plate, and connects to the belt members via a flexible belt attachment which removably secures to the belt members. The closure system includes tensioning elements corresponding to the belt members, and a pulley system connecting to the tensioning elements. The closure system is slidably mounted to the plate and arranged to the belt members relative to the plate between opposed linear directions. The plate has various contours which provide pressure distribution over a lumbar region of a back. Anatomically shaped and resiliently formed handles secure to the tensioning elements and the belt members.

A lumbar support having inner and outer sides, comprising: a closure system;first and second belt members each being elongate and having first ends connected to opposed first and second sides of the closure system, the first belt member including a fastening element located on an inner surface al
1. A lumbar support having inner and outer sides, comprising: a closure system;first and second belt members each being elongate and having first ends connected to opposed first and second sides of the closure system, the first belt member including a fastening element located on an inner surface along the inner side of the lumbar support at a second end of the first belt member opposite the first end and arranged to secure to a material along an outer surface of the second belt member at the outer side of the lumbar support;a tensioning element having a handle located at a first end thereof and a second end engaging the closure system, the handle adapted to engage the material of the second belt member and adjust the closure system independently of the first and second belt members;further comprising a covering concealing the closure system, the first ends of the first and second belt members being located generally within the covering such that the first ends of the first and second belt members secure to the cover, with the second ends of the first and second belt members extending outside of the covering. 2. The lumbar support of claim 1, wherein the material of the second belt member extends a length between the first and second ends of the second belt member. 3. The lumbar support of claim 2, wherein the length of the material extends an entire distance between the first and second ends of the second belt member. 4. The lumbar support of claim 1, wherein the first belt member has a same material located along an entirety of the outer side of its length between the first and second ends. 5. The lumbar support of claim 1, wherein the closure system includes a back plate having a contour down a middle region corresponding to a lower spinal region of a wearer, such that the covering extends over the back plate. 6. The lumbar support of claim 5, wherein a rigid panel is provided in combination with the back plate and connects thereto. 7. The lumbar support of claim 5, wherein the back plate has an anatomical geometry arranged to closely accommodate a wide variety of different back anatomies and includes an outwardly directed curvature generally protruding away from the middle region. 8. The lumbar support of claim 5, wherein the back plate is arranged to apply even pressure over a paraspinal musculature of a human back by having an inwardly directed contour. 9. The lumbar support of claim 5, wherein the back plate includes side wing portions inwardly contoured, a tapered top portion and generally rounded side portions arranged to provide coverage over side portions of the lumbar region of a wearer's back, and contribute to pressure distribution over sensitive and less sensitive areas of a wearer's back. 10. The lumbar support of claim 5, wherein the back plate defines a general arcuate contour providing lordosis support and arranged in combination with pressure exerted on the back plate via the closure system to maintain correct lumbar lordosis and create hydrostatic lift. 11. The lumbar support of claim 5, wherein the back plate is formed with a plurality of ventilation openings allowing for a circulation of air between the back of a wearer and the back plate. 12. The lumbar support of claim 5, wherein the back plate includes a center pattern extending about a centerline of the back plate along the spinal region defining an outwardly directed curvature. 13. The lumbar support of claim 5, wherein the covering includes a locating element adapted for arranging a supplementary support element thereto on the inner side of the lumbar support. 14. The lumbar support of claim 5, wherein the covering includes a locating element arranged to engage a supplementary support element thereto, the locating element having a color or indicia arranged to identify the locating element relative to a remainder of the covering. 15. The lumbar support of claim 1, wherein at least one of the first and second belt members includes a locating element located at the second end thereof and arranged to receive and engage a supplementary support element on the inner side of the lumbar support. 16. The lumbar support of claim 1, wherein the second ends of the first and second belt members have corresponding and complementary non-circular shapes for engagement to one another. 17. The lumbar support of claim 1, wherein the first belt member includes a plurality of indicia located from the first end toward the second end thereof indicating sizes of the first belt member, the first belt member arranged to be trimmable at least along the indicia and refastenable to the closure system for resizing the first belt member. 18. The lumbar support of claim 1, wherein the first and second belt members have a predetermined first length and are reducible in length to have a second length. 19. A lumbar support having inner and outer sides, comprising: a closure system;first and second belt members separate from one another and defining an elongate form and having first ends connected to opposed first and second sides of the closure system, the first belt member including a fastening element located on an inner surface along the inner side of the lumbar support at a second end of the first belt member opposite the first end and arranged to secure to a material of the outer side along an outer surface of the second belt member, the first belt member arranged to be resized in length from the first end and connect to the closure system in view of its new length;a tensioning element having a handle located at a first end thereof and a second end engaging the closure system, the handle adapted to engage the first belt member and adjust the closure system independently of the first and second belt members, the tensioning element arranged for resizing according to the new length of the first belt member;further comprising a covering concealing the closure system, the first ends of the belt members being located generally within the covering such that the first ends of the belt members secure to the cover, with the second ends of the belt members extending outside of the covering. 20. A method of adjusting size of a lumbar support, comprising the steps of: providing a lumbar support having a closure system, and first and second belt members separate from one another and defining an elongate form and having first ends connected to opposed first and second sides of the closure system, the first belt member including a fastening element located on an inner surface along the inner side of the lumbar support at a second end of the first belt member opposite the first end and arranged to secure to a material of the outer side along an outer surface of the second belt member;resizing a length of the first belt member from the first end to form a new length; andand connecting the first belt member having a new length to the closure system;a covering concealing the closure system, the first ends of the belt members being located generally within the covering such that the first ends of the belt members secure to the cover, with the second ends of the belt members extending outside of the covering.
