A brush section for use with an electric toothbrush includes a relatively large brush head portion having a generally rectangular shape, although oblong, elliptical and other such shapes having a length to width aspect ration greater than 1 may be employed. The brush head portion is secured to a shaft portion of the brush section that may be configured to couple to a handle section. The handle section may include an electric drive including drive shaft, and the drive shaft may couple to the brush head via a coupling member positioned within the shaft portion. The electric drive may impart a rotary, oscillating rotary-oscillating or other suitable drive motion to the drive shaft that is, in turn, imparted upon the brush head by virtue of the coupling member.

1. An electric toothbrush, comprising: a handle section, a motor, a gear, and a transmission;a brush section structured to be push-fitted onto the handle section including a mounting tube and a brush head portion, a plurality of movable contact elements connected to a movable contact element holder, and a plurality of static contact elements attached to the brush head;wherein the transmission converts rotational movement provided by the motor into an oscillating movement at a drive shaft having a longitudinal axis; the brush section is removably attachable to the handle section of the toothbrush; andthe movable contact element holder is mounted in and pivotably movable relative to the brush head and is removably and operatively connected to the drive shaft, such that the oscillating movement of the drive shaft causes the movable contact elements to move relative to the static contact elements in a back and forth oscillating movement about the longitudinal axis, wherein the plurality of static contact elements and the plurality of movable contact elements are arranged in rows generally transverse to the longitudinal axis, the rows being alternate rows of the static contact elements and the movable contact elements. 2. The electric toothbrush of claim 1, wherein the movable contact elements are mounted to the movable contact element holder supported within the brush head and which extend from the movable contact element holder through an aperture. 3. The electric toothbrush of claim 2, wherein the movable contact elements are mounted to the movable contact element holder at an angle. 4. The electric toothbrush of claim 1, wherein the static contact elements are attached to the brush head in a region opposite from the mounting tube. 5. The electric toothbrush of claim 1, wherein the movable contact elements are attached to the brush head in a region adjacent the mounting tube. 6. The electric toothbrush of claim 1, wherein the movable contact elements are attached to the brush head in a region opposite from the mounting tube. 7. The electric toothbrush of claim 6, wherein the static contact elements are attached to the brush head in a region adjacent the mounting tube. 8. The electric toothbrush of claim 1, wherein the movable contact element holder extends axially along the longitudinal axis of the mounting tube. 9. The electric toothbrush of claim 1, wherein a cleaning motion comprises an oscillation of the at least one movable contact elements at a frequency of from about 30 Hz to about 130 Hz. 10. The electric toothbrush of claim 1, wherein the movable contact elements include tufts having a plurality of individual filaments attached to the movable contact element holder with their longitudinal axis transverse to the direction of movement of the movable contact elements. 11. The electric toothbrush of claim 1, wherein the mounting tube includes a profile ring having an inside contour complementary with an outside contour of the handle section in order to push-fit the brush section onto the handle section in a manner preventing relative rotation of the brush section with respect to the handle section. 12. The electric toothbrush of claim 1, wherein the plurality of static contact elements have a first height and the plurality of movable contact elements have a second height, different from the first height. 13. An electric toothbrush, comprising: a handle section, a motor, a gear, and a transmission;a brush section structured to be push-fitted onto the handle section including a mounting tube and a brush head portion, a plurality of movable contact elements connected to a movable contact element holder, and a plurality of static contact elements attached to the brush head;wherein the transmission converts rotational movement provided by the motor into an oscillating movement at a drive shaft having a longitudinal axis; the brush section is removably attachable to the handle section of the toothbrush; and the movable contact element holder is mounted in and pivotably movable relative to the brush head and is removably and operatively connected to the drive shaft, such that the oscillating movement of the drive shaft causes the movable contact elements to move relative to the static contact elements in a back and forth oscillating movement about the longitudinal axis; and at least a portion of the plurality of static contact elements and at least a portion of the plurality of movable contact elements are arranged in rows generally transverse to the longitudinal axis, the rows being alternate rows of the static contact elements and the movable contact elements. 14. An electric toothbrush, comprising: a handle section, a motor, a gear, and a transmission;a brush section structured to be push-fitted onto the handle section including a mounting tube and a brush head portion, a plurality of movable contact elements connected to a movable contact element holder, and a plurality of static contact elements attached to the brush head;wherein the transmission converts rotational movement provided by the motor into an oscillating movement at a drive shaft having a longitudinal axis; the brush section is removably attachable to the handle section of the toothbrush; and the movable contact element holder is mounted in and pivotably movable relative to the brush head and is removably and operatively connected to the drive shaft, such that the oscillating movement of the drive shaft causes the movable contact elements to move relative to the static contact elements in a back and forth oscillating movement about the longitudinal axis; wherein the movable contact elements are attached to the brush head in a region opposite the mounting tube, and wherein at least a portion of the plurality of static contact elements and at least a portion of the plurality of movable contact elements are arranged in rows generally transverse to the longitudinal axis, the rows being alternate rows of the static contact elements and the movable contact elements. 15. The electric toothbrush of claim 14, wherein the static contact elements are attached to the brush head in a region adjacent the mounting tube. 16. An electric toothbrush, comprising: a handle section, a motor, a gear, and a transmission;a brush section structured to be push-fitted onto the handle section including a mounting tube and a brush head portion, a plurality of movable contact elements connected to a movable contact element holder, and a plurality of static contact elements attached to the brush head; wherein the transmission converts rotational movement provided by the motor into an oscillating movement at a drive shaft having a longitudinal axis; the brush section is removably attachable to the handle section of the toothbrush; and the movable contact element holder is mounted in and pivotably movable relative to the brush head and is removably and operatively connected to the drive shaft, such that the oscillating movement of the drive shaft causes the movable contact elements to move relative to the static contact elements in a back and forth oscillating movement about the longitudinal axis; wherein the plurality of movable contact elements and the plurality of static contact elements include tufts having a plurality of individual filaments; wherein the plurality of static contact elements have a first height and the plurality of movable contact elements have a second height, different from the first height, and wherein at least a portion of the plurality of static contact elements and at least a portion of the plurality of movable contact elements are arranged in rows generally transverse to the longitudinal axis, the rows being alternate rows of the static contact elements and the movable contact elements.
