A self-propelled cleaning apparatus for cleaning a submerged surface of a pool or tank includes a housing having a front portion as defined by the direction of movement of the apparatus when propelled by a water jet, an opposing rear portion and adjoining side portions defining the periphery of the apparatus, and a baseplate with at least one water inlet. Rotationally-mounted supports are coupled proximate the front and rear portions of the housing to enable movement of the apparatus over the submerged surface. A water pump is configured to draw water and debris from the pool through the inlet for filtering. A stationary directional discharge conduit is in fluid communication with the pump and has at least one discharge opening through which a pressurized stream of water forming the water jet is directionally discharged at an acute angle with respect to the surface over which the apparatus is moving.

1. A self-propelled cleaning apparatus for cleaning a sub-merged surface of a pool, comprising: a housing including a front portion, a rear portion substantially opposite the front portion, first and second side portions disposed between the front and rear portions, a top portion and a bottom portion;a first support rotationally mounted to the first side portion and a second support rotationally mounted to the second side portion, wherein a rotational axis of the first support is substantially aligned with a rotational axis of the second support;an inlet disposed in the bottom portion of the housing;an outlet having a fixed longitudinal axis disposed at an acute angle with respect to the rotational axis of the first support and the rotational axis of the second support;at least one filter disposed in an interior of the housing; andan electric water pump disposed in the interior of the housing, the water pump configured to draw water and debris from the pool into the housing through the inlet, direct water through the at least one filter, and discharge predominately all filtered water exiting the at least one filter out of the housing into the pool through the outlet. 2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the first and second supports are mounted on separate axles. 3. The apparatus of claim 1, further including a third support rotationally mounted to the first side portion and a fourth support rotationally mounted to the second side portion, wherein a rotational axis of the third support is substantially aligned with a rotational axis of the fourth support. 4. The apparatus of claim 3, wherein the first and second supports are mounted on separate axles and the third and fourth supports are mounted on separate axles. 5. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the outlet is a port disposed in the rear portion of the housing. 6. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the filter is disposed fluidly upstream of the outlet. 7. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the filter is disposed fluidly downstream of the inlet and fluidly upstream of the outlet. 8. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the first and second supports are mounted on a common axle. 9. A self-propelled cleaning apparatus for cleaning a sub-merged surface of a pool, comprising: a housing defining an interior, the housing including a front portion, a rear portion substantially opposite the front portion, first and second side portions disposed between the front and rear portions, a top portion and a bottom portion, wherein the housing includes a longitudinal axis extending between the front portion and the rear portion;a first support rotationally mounted on the first side portion of the housing and a second support rotationally mounted on the second side portion of the housing, wherein a rotational axis of the first support is substantially aligned with a rotational axis of the second support, wherein the rotational axes of the first and second supports extend across the interior of the housing substantially orthogonal to the longitudinal axis of the housing;an inlet disposed in the housing;an outlet having a fixed longitudinal axis disposed at an acute angle with respect to the rotational axis of the first support and the rotational axis of the second support;at least one filter disposed in the interior of the housing; andan electric water pump disposed in the interior of the housing, the water pump configured to draw water from the pool into the housing through the inlet, direct water through the at least one filter, and discharge water out of the housing into the pool through the outlet, wherein a predominant portion of the water discharged through the outlet is water directed through the filter. 10. The apparatus of claim 9, further including a third support rotationally mounted to the first side portion of the housing and a fourth support rotationally mounted to the second side portion of the housing, wherein a rotational axis of the third support is substantially aligned with a rotational axis of the fourth support. 11. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein the first, second, third, and fourth supports are wheels. 12. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein the first and second supports are mounted on a common axle and the third and fourth supports are mounted on a common axle. 13. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the first and second supports are wheels. 14. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the first and second supports are mounted on separate axles. 15. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the outlet is a port disposed in the rear portion of the housing. 16. The apparatus of claim 9, wherein the first and second supports are mounted on a common axle. 17. A self-propelled cleaning apparatus for cleaning a sub-merged surface of a pool, comprising: a housing having an interior;a first wheel rotationally mounted to a first portion of the housing and a second wheel rotationally mounted to a second portion of the housing, the first and second wheels at least partially supporting the housing relative to a surface of the pool on which the apparatus moves, wherein a rotational axis of the first wheel is substantially aligned with a rotational axis of the second wheel;an inlet disposed in the housing;an outlet having a fixed longitudinal axis disposed at an acute angle with respect to the rotational axis of the first wheel and the rotational axis of the second wheel;at least one filter disposed in the interior of the housing; andan electric pump disposed in the interior of the housing, the pump configured to draw water and debris into the interior of the housing through the inlet, direct water and debris into the filter, direct filtered water out the filter, and discharge a predominant amount of the filtered water through the outlet. 18.
