1. An apparatus comprising: a processor; anda non-transitory computer-readable medium storing computer readable instructions that, when executed, cause the apparatus to: receive, from an athletic activity monitoring system remote from the apparatus, athletic activity data recorded during athletic activity performed by a user;determine a type of athletic activity performed by the user based on the received athletic activity data;select an athletic activity action descriptor object based on the determined type of athletic activity performed by the user, wherein the athletic activity action descriptor object describes a type of action performed by the user during the athletic activity;determine a monitoring device used to monitor the athletic activity performed by the user;select a device descriptor object based on the determined monitoring device, the device descriptor object including at least one of text, audio, an image, or a video; andgenerate an athletic activity entry, including generating a message with the athletic activity action descriptor object and including, within the message, the at least one of the text, audio, image or video of the device descriptor object, on a network page of a social networking site, wherein the athletic activity entry and the network page are viewable by at least one other user. 2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the athletic activity action descriptor object includes at least one of another text, audio, image, or video. 3. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the athletic activity data further includes at least one of map information and route information associated with the athletic activity performed by the user, and wherein generating the athletic activity entry includes adding a map corresponding to the at least one of the map information and the route information in the athletic activity entry. 4. The apparatus of claim 3, wherein a user route in performing the athletic activity is identified in the map. 5. The apparatus of claim 3, wherein the at least one of the map information and the route information is downloadable to at least one other user, wherein the at least one of the map information and the route information is configured to specify a workout location or route for the at least one other user. 6. The apparatus of claim 3, wherein the map is configured to be interactively user-navigable. 7. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising an activity tracking application configured to execute within the context of the social networking site. 8. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein selection of the athletic activity action descriptor object includes: determining a value of an athletic activity metric recorded in the athletic activity data;determining whether the value is above a threshold value; andin response to determining that the value is equal to or above the threshold value, selecting a first athletic activity descriptor object; andin response to determining that the value is below the threshold value, selecting a second athletic activity descriptor object. 9. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the athletic activity action descriptor object is selected from a plurality of athletic activity action descriptor objects, wherein each of the athletic activity action descriptor objects is unique to a single type of athletic activity. 10. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein generating the athletic activity entry includes: determining whether at least one of map information and route information is available for the athletic activity performed by the user; andin response to determining that the at least one of the map information and route information is not available, including a first interactive element in the athletic activity entry, the first interactive element configured to direct a viewer to a non-location oriented activity summary interface. 11. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein generating the athletic activity entry further includes: in response to determining that the at least one of the map information and route information is available, including a second interactive element configured to direct the viewer to at least one of a map and an image of a route corresponding to a location at which the athletic activity was performed by the user. 12. An apparatus comprising: a processor; anda non-transitory computer-readable medium storing computer readable instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the apparatus to: record athletic activity performed by a user;provide a summary of one or more metrics recorded for the athletic activity performed by the user; andprovide a plurality of workout information sharing options, wherein the plurality of sharing options includes a sharing option configured to specifically control whether a first type of activity information is shared, wherein sharing includes transmitting workout information associated with the recorded athletic activity to at least one social networking site. 13. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein the summary and the plurality of workout information sharing options are provided in a single interface. 14. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein the apparatus is further caused to provide an option to tag the summary with identifiers of one or more other users. 15. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein the apparatus is further caused to: transmit the workout information to a social networking site;after transmitting the workout information to the social networking site, receive a request to deactivate sharing of the first type of activity information; andtransmit a modification request to remove the first type of activity information from the social networking site. 16. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein the sharing option configured to control sharing of the first type of activity information is associated with a first set of one or more conditions under which sharing is permitted, and wherein the first set of one or more conditions under which sharing is permitted includes:at least a time of day, a frequency of sharing and a range of activity metric values. 17. The apparatus of claim 16, wherein a sharing option configured to control sharing of a second type of activity information is associated with a second set of one or more conditions under which sharing is permitted. 18. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein the apparatus is further caused to: transmit the workout information to a social networking site, wherein the workout information includes map information identifying a route used by the user to perform the athletic activity. 19. The apparatus of claim 18, wherein the map information includes geographic coordinates for a start location and an end location. 20. The apparatus of claim 18, wherein the map information includes an image of a map identifying a route used by the user in performing the athletic activity. 21. The apparatus of claim 18, wherein the map information includes a link to a network site displaying a map identifying a location at which the athletic activity was performed by the user. 22. The apparatus of claim 18, wherein the map information includes route information downloadable to another user's athletic activity monitoring device for use by the other user to perform athletic activity according to a route defined by the route information. 23. The apparatus of claim 12, wherein the apparatus is further caused to: automatically generate, without user input, a social network message based on one or more of a type of athletic activity performed by the user, the one or more metrics and a location at which the athletic activity was performed by the user. 24. The apparatus of claim 23, wherein the apparatus is further caused to: receive user edits to the automatically generated social network message; andmodifying the automatically generated social network message based on the received user edits.
