1. A fire-fighting system comprising: a base component;a nozzle located remote from said base component and adapted for handheld control by a firefighter positioned adjacent the nozzle; anda locator component mounted to said nozzle and communicatively coupleable to said base component, said locator component comprising a transceiver configured to wirelessly receive signals from said base component, and a locator beacon comprising a visually-perceptible output device, wherein said locator component is configured to activate said locator beacon in response to an activation signal received from said base component. 2. A fire-fighting system in accordance with claim 1, wherein said locator beacon is visually perceptible from any direction relative to said nozzle, irrespective of a position and orientation of said nozzle. 3. A fire-fighting system in accordance with claim 1, wherein said locator component is configured for bi-directional communication with said base component. 4. A fire-fighting system in accordance with claim 3, wherein said locator component further comprises a camera, said locator component configured to wirelessly transmit images captured by said camera to said base component. 5. A fire-fighting system in accordance with claim 1, wherein said output device is visually perceptible in low visibility conditions by a user positioned remote from said nozzle. 6. A fire-fighting system in accordance with claim 1, wherein said base component is configured to transmit the activation signal to said locator component in response to receiving an input from a user at said base component. 7. A fire-fighting system in accordance with claim 1, wherein said output device comprises a strobe light. 8. A fire-fighting system in accordance with claim 1, wherein said locator component further comprises a display configured to display a plurality of indicators associated with a status of the fire-fighting system. 9. A fire-fighting system in accordance with claim 8, wherein said locator component is configured to present, via said display, a first of the plurality of indicators indicative of a water volume associated with a first water source stored at a fire fighting device, and a second of the plurality of indicators indicative of a water pressure associated with a second water source remote from the fire-fighting device, in response to signals received from said base component. 10. A fire-fighting system in accordance with claim 8, wherein said locator component is configured to present, via said display, at least one of the plurality of indicators indicative of whether the nozzle is ready to discharge water in response to signals received from said base component. 11. A fire-fighting system in accordance with claim 8, wherein said locator component is configured to present, via said display, a warning message in response to signals received from said base component. 12. A fire-fighting system in accordance with claim 1, wherein said locator component further comprises an input device configured to transmit a communication signal to the base component. 13. A nozzle system for use in a fire-fighting environment, said nozzle system comprising: a nozzle adapted for handheld control by a firefighter positioned adjacent said nozzle; anda locator component positioned proximate said nozzle, said locator component communicatively coupleable to a base component positioned remote from said nozzle and associated with said nozzle, said locator component comprising a transceiver configured to wirelessly receive signals from said base component, and a locator beacon comprising a visually-perceptible output device, wherein said locator component is configured to activate said locator beacon in response to a signal received from the base component. 14. A nozzle system in accordance with claim 13, wherein said output device is visually perceptible in low visibility conditions by a user positioned remote from said nozzle. 15. A nozzle system in accordance with claim 13, wherein said output device comprises a strobe light. 16. A nozzle system in accordance with claim 13, wherein said locator component further comprises a display configured to display a plurality of indicators associated with a status of the nozzle system. 17. A nozzle system in accordance with claim 16, wherein said locator component is configured to present, via said display, a first of the plurality of indicators indicative of a water volume associated with a first water source stored at a fire fighting device, and a second of the plurality of indicators indicative of a water pressure associated with a second water source remote from the fire-fighting device, in response to signals received from the base component. 18. A nozzle system in accordance with claim 16, wherein said locator component is configured to present, via said display, at least one of the plurality of indicators indicative of whether the nozzle is ready to discharge water in response to signals received from the base component. 19. A method of controlling a nozzle system in a fire-fighting environment, said method comprising: communicatively coupling a base component to a locator component positioned proximate a nozzle adapted for handheld control by a firefighter positioned adjacent the nozzle, wherein the locator component includes a transceiver configured to wirelessly receive signals from the base component, and a locator beacon including a visually-perceptible output device;receiving an activation signal at the locator component from the base component; andactivating the locator beacon in response to receiving the activation signal. 20. A method in accordance with claim 18 further comprising transmitting the activation signal to the locator component from the base component in response to receiving a user input at the base component. 21. A method in accordance with claim 18, wherein the output device includes a strobe light, the method further comprising activating the strobe light in response to receiving the activation signal.
