Methods and systems for tracking a position and torsional orientation of a patient's eye. In one embodiment, the present invention provides methods and software for registering a first image of an eye with a second image of an eye. In another embodiment, the present invention provides methods and software for tracking a torsional movement of the eye. In a particular usage, the present invention tracks the torsional cyclorotation and translational movement of a patient's eye so as to improve the delivery of a laser energy to the patient's cornea.

The method of claim 1, wherein the wavefront measurement produces an ablation profile for a position of the eye in the first image. 3. The method of claim 2, wherein directing the femtosecond laser toward the eye per the rotational offset comprises torsionally aligning the ablation profile with a rotational position of the eye in the second image based on the rotational offset. 4. The method of claim 3, wherein the second image of the eye is a video frame of a streaming video of the eye. 5. The method of claim 4, further comprising tracking, after torsionally aligning the ablation profile with the rotational position of the eye in the second image, a torsional orientation of the eye by receiving image frames from the streaming video of the eye and identifying one or more tissue markers in the received image frames and calculating torsional motion of the eye based on torsional movement of the tissue markers in the received image frames. 6. The method of claim 5, further comprising updating the ablation profile to correspond with a torsional orientation of the eye in the streaming video of the eye. 7. The method of claim 6, further comprising processing the first image of the eye so as to identify a pupil center or an iris center; processing the second image of the eye so as to identify the pupil center or the iris center; determining a translational offset between the first image and the second image based on the pupil center or iris center identified in the first and second images; and directing the beam toward the eye per the translational offset so as to perform the LASIK procedure. 8. The method of claim 7, wherein the ablation profile comprises ablation locations with x, y coordinates and wherein torsionally aligning the ablation profile with the rotational position of the patient's eye based on the rotational offset (θ) comprises defining a new ablation location (x′, y′) of an ablation location (x, y) of the ablation profile with the equation: (x′y′)=[cosθ-sinθsinθcosθ](xy). 9.
