A weed trimmer apparatus comprising a rotary head defining at least one side wall, the side wall forming an aperture therethrough, and at least one retention device, said retention device comprisinga line retention member for retaining a trimmer line, the line retention member being operatively connected to the head and disposed to extend transversely into the aperture,wherein the line retention member comprises a pendulum, wherein the pendulum extends through a loop of the trimmer line during operation of the weed trimmer apparatus, andwherein the trimmer line is connected to the line retention member, wherein the loop of the trimmer line is open, such that the trimmer line has two ends distal to the head and has an approximate middle portion proximal to the head wherein the proximal middle portion of each trimmer line forms the loop through which the line retention member extends. 2. A weed trimmer apparatus of claim 1 wherein the pendulum is substantially “L”-shaped. 3. A weed trimmer apparatus of claim 1 wherein the line retention member is substantially “T”-shaped. 4. A weed trimmer apparatus comprising a head comprising two or more plates, andone or more retention devices operatively connected to one or more of the plates,wherein the one or more plates are substantially parallel to one another,wherein the one or more retention devices comprise one or more line retention members for retaining one or more trimmer lines,wherein each line retention member comprises a pendulum that is sized and configured to extend through a loop of at least one trimmer line during operation of the weed trimmer apparatus, andwherein at least one trimmer line is connected to each line retention member, wherein the loop of the trimmer line is open, such that each trimmer line has two ends distal to the head and has an approximate middle portion proximal to the head wherein the proximal middle portion of each trimmer line forms the loop through which the line retention member extends. 5. A weed trimmer apparatus of claim 4 wherein the head comprises two plates, wherein each plate defines four holes, wherein each of the four holes in each plate is aligned with a respective hole in the other plate, and wherein each of the four holes is sized and configured to receive at least a portion of one retention device and support the retention device. 6. A weed trimmer apparatus of claim 4 wherein the retention device comprises at least three line retention members wherein at least one of the line retention members of each retention device is located above an upper one of the two plates, at least one of the line retention members of each retention device is located between the two plates, and at least one of the line retention members of each retention device is located below a lower one of the two plates. 7. A weed trimmer apparatus of claim 4 further comprising a protective guard operatively connected at least to a lower-most plate of the head, wherein the protective guard is substantially circular in shape. 8. A weed trimmer apparatus of claim 6 further comprising a substantially circular lower sleeve,wherein the lower sleeve is operatively connected to a lower-most plate of the head. 9. A weed trimmer apparatus of claim 6 further comprising a bearing,wherein the bearing is operatively connected to the protective guard and wherein the bearing which allows the protective guard to rotate or remain stationary independent of any rotation of the head. 10. A weed trimmer apparatus of claim 8 wherein the protective guard has a radius larger than the radius of the lower-most plate of the head. 11. A weed trimmer apparatus of claim 8 wherein the protective guard has a radius smaller than the radius of the lower-most plate of the head. 12. A weed trimmer apparatus of claim 4 further comprising a connector device that is sized and configured to connect each retention device to at least one of the plates,wherein at least one of the plates defines one or more apertures,wherein each retention device has an end proximal to the head and an end distal to the head,wherein each retention device defines at least one opening near its proximal end, andwherein the opening of the retention device is sized and configured to be in communication with at least one aperture of at least one of the plates such that the connector device connects the opening of the retention device to the aperture of at least one of the plates. 13. A weed trimmer apparatus of claim 12 wherein the connector device is rotatably connected to the retention device and at least one of the plates. 14. A weed trimmer apparatus of claim 1 wherein the trimmer line is connected to the line retention member, wherein the loop of the trimmer line is closed, such that the trimmer line has an end proximal to the head and an end distal to the head, wherein the proximal end of each trimmer line forms the loop through which the line retention member extends. 15. A weed trimmer apparatus of claim 4 wherein at least one trimmer line is connected to each line retention member, wherein the loop of the trimmer line is closed, such that the trimmer line has an end proximal to the head and an end distal to the head, wherein the proximal end of each trimmer line forms the loop through which the line retention member extends. 16. A weed trimmer apparatus of claim 1, wherein the pendulum is dynamically connected to the head. 17. A weed trimmer apparatus of claim 4 wherein the pendulum is dynamically connected to the head.
