The controller of claim 1, wherein the predetermined length of time comprises a range from 5 seconds to 30 seconds. 6. A controller for a blood pump, the controller comprising: an input configured to receive blood pressure information, wherein the input is configured to receive, from the blood pump, information that indicates a difference in pressure between an inflow conduit of the blood pump and an outflow conduit of the blood pump;a processing device configured to generate a control signal based on the received blood pressure information, wherein the control signal is configured to cause the speed of the blood pump to be: adjusted at a particular interval such that a pressure differential across the inflow conduit and the outflow conduit of the blood pump is adjusted to open the aortic valve; andmaintained at the adjusted speed for a predetermined length of time;wherein the processing device is configured to generate the control signal based on the information that indicates the difference in pressure between the inflow conduit of the blood pump and the outflow conduit of the blood pump; andan output configured to transmit the control signal to the blood pump. 7. The controller of claim 6, wherein the processing device is configured to generate the control signal to cause the speed of the blood pump to be reduced at the particular interval. 8. A controller for a blood pump, the controller comprising: an input configured to receive blood pressure information, wherein the input is configured to receive information indicating an inflow conduit pressure that is substantially equivalent to ventricular pressure and an outflow conduit pressure that is substantially equivalent to arterial pressure;a processing device configured to generate a control signal based on the received blood pressure information, wherein the control signal is configured to cause the speed of the blood pump to be: adjusted at a particular interval such that a pressure differential across the inflow conduit and the outflow conduit of the blood pump is adjusted to open the aortic valve; andmaintained at the adjusted speed for a predetermined length of time;wherein the processing device is configured to generate the control signal based on the information indicating the inflow conduit pressure that is substantially equivalent to ventricular pressure and the outflow conduit pressure that is substantially equivalent to arterial pressure; andan output configured to transmit the control signal to the blood pump. 9. The controller of claim 8, wherein the processing device is configured to generate the control signal to cause the speed of the blood pump to be adjusted such that, during systole, the ventricular pressure is equal to or exceeds the arterial pressure. 10. The controller of claim 8, wherein the processing device is configured to generate the control signal to cause the speed of the blood pump to be adjusted such that such that the ventricular pressure exceeds the arterial pressure. 11. The controller of claim 8, wherein the processing device is configured to generate the control signal to cause the speed of the blood pump to be reduced at the particular interval. 12. A machine-readable storage device storing instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising: receiving blood pressure information; andsending a control signal to a blood pump based on the received blood pressure information, the control signal causing the speed of the blood pump to be: adjusted at a particular interval such that a pressure differential across an inflow conduit and an outflow conduit of the blood pump is adjusted to open the aortic valve; andmaintained at the adjusted speed for a predetermined length of time to permit washing of the aortic valve sinus or for 4-5 heart beats. 13. The machine-readable storage device of claim 12, wherein sending the control signal causing the speed of the blood pump to be adjusted comprises sending a signal causing the speed of the blood pump to be reduced at the particular interval. 14.
