A method of generating one or more new digital images using an original digitally-acquired image including a selected image feature includes identifying within a digital image acquisition device one or more groups of pixels that correspond to the selected image feature based on information from one or more preview images. A portion of the original image is selected that includes the one or more groups of pixels. The technique includes automatically generating values of pixels of one or more new images based on the selected portion in a manner which includes the selected image feature within the one or more new images.

1. A method for re-composing an image, the method comprising: continuously acquiring a plurality of images with selectively adjusted exposures by: as a camera acquires the plurality of images: calculating an overall exposure for at least one image of the plurality of images;determining whether a first image, of the at least one image, depicts a face;in response to determining that the first image, of the at least one image, depicts the face: identifying, in the first image, of the at least one image, a first region in which the face is depicted;calculating a face exposure for the first region in the first image;based, at least in part, on the overall exposure and the face exposure, determining a first adjusted exposure for at least one region of a second image to be acquired;acquiring a second image, of the plurality of images, using the first adjusted exposure;identifying, in the acquired second image, a second region which corresponds to the first region depicting the face;based, at least in part, on the first image and the second image, generating a re-composed image by replacing at least one group of pixels in the first region in the first image with adjusted exposure pixels of the second image; anddisplaying the re-composed image on a device display. 2. The method of claim 1, further comprising: upon receiving an indication that a quality of a depiction of the face in the re-composed image is unsatisfactory: based, at least in part, on the overall exposure and the first adjusted exposure, determining a second adjusted exposure for at least one region of a third image to be acquired;identifying, in the acquired third image, a third region which corresponds to the second region, depicts the face, and has the second adjusted exposure; andbased, at least in part, on the first image and the third image, generating another re-composed image by replacing the first region in the first image with the third region of the third image. 3. The method of claim 1, wherein the overall exposure is calculated based, at least in part, on one or more weights associated with one or more regions in the at least one image of the plurality of images; andwherein the one or more weights represent respective contributions of the one or more regions to the overall exposure. 4. The method of claim 1, further comprising: determining whether the face exposure for the first region in the first image is darker than the overall exposure; andin response to determining that the face exposure for the first region in the first image is darker than the overall exposure, determining the first adjusted exposure by increasing the face exposure. 5. The method of claim 1, further comprising: in response to determining the first adjusted exposure, simulating a digital equivalent of a fill-flash effect without activating a flash mode of the camera. 6. The method of claim 1, further comprising: upon receiving an indication that a quality of a depiction of the face in the re-composed image is satisfactory, storing the re-composed image in a storage. 7. The method of claim 1, wherein the continuously acquiring the plurality of images with the selectively adjusted exposures is performed for the first image depicting a plurality of faces; andwherein the method further comprises determining a plurality of different adjusted exposures. 8. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium, storing one or more program instructions which, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors, to perform: continuously acquiring a plurality of images with selectively adjusted exposures by: as a camera acquires the plurality of images: calculating an overall exposure for at least one image of the plurality of images;determining whether a first image, of the at least one image, depicts a face;in response to determining that the first image, of the at least one image, depicts the face: identifying, in the first image, of the at least one image, a first region in which an face is depicted;calculating a face exposure for the first region in the first image;based, at least in part, on the overall exposure and the face exposure, determining a first adjusted exposure for at least one region of a second image to be acquired;acquiring a second image, of the plurality of images, using the first adjusted exposure;identifying, in the acquired second image, a second region which corresponds to the first region depicting the face;based, at least in part, on the first image and the second image, generating a re-composed image by replacing at least one group of pixels in the first region in the first image with adjusted exposure pixels of the second image; anddisplaying the re-composed image on a device display. 9. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 8, further comprising additional instructions which, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform: upon receiving an indication that a quality of a depiction of the face in the re-composed image is unsatisfactory: based, at least in part, on the overall exposure and the first adjusted exposure, determining a second adjusted exposure for at least one region of a third image to be acquired;identifying, in the acquired third image, a third region which corresponds to the second region, depicts the face, and has the second adjusted exposure; andbased, at least in part, on the first image and the third image, generating another re-composed image by replacing the first region in the first image with the third region of the third image. 10. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 8, wherein the overall exposure is calculated based, at least in part, on one or more weights associated with one or more regions in the at least one image of the plurality of images; andwherein the one or more weights represent respective contributions of the one or more regions to the overall exposure. 11. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 8, further comprising additional instructions which, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform: determining whether the face exposure for the first region in the first image is darker than the overall exposure; andin response to determining that the face exposure for the first region in the first image is darker than the overall exposure, determining the first adjusted exposure by increasing the face exposure. 12. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 8, further comprising additional instructions which, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform: in response to determining the first adjusted exposure, simulating a digital equivalent of a fill-flash effect without activating a flash mode of the camera. 13. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 8, further comprising additional instructions which, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform: upon receiving an indication that a quality of a depiction of the face in the re-composed image is satisfactory, storing the re-composed image in a storage. 14. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 8, wherein the continuously acquiring the plurality of images with the selectively adjusted exposures is performed for the first image depicting a plurality of faces. 15. A digital camera comprising: one or more sensors continuously acquiring a plurality of images with selectively adjusted exposures;one or more memory units storing the plurality of images; andone or more electronic component circuities that cause the performance of: as the one or more sensors acquire the plurality of images: calculating an overall exposure for at least one image of the plurality of images;determining whether a first image, of the at least one image, depicts a face;in response to determining that the first image, of the at least one image, depicts the face: identifying, in the first image, of the at least one image, a first region in which an face is depicted;calculating a face exposure for the first region in the first image;based, at least in part, on the overall exposure and the face exposure, determining a first adjusted exposure for at least one region of a second image to be acquired;acquiring a second image, of the plurality of images, using the first adjusted exposure;identifying, in the acquired second image, a second region which corresponds to the first region depicting the face;based, at least in part, on the first image and the second image, generating a re-composed image by replacing at least one group of pixels in the first region in the first image with adjusted exposure pixels of the second image; anddisplaying the re-composed image on a device display. 16.
