The panel includes a water resistant barrier layer secured atop its outward facing surface. The water resistant barrier layer includes a skid resistant surface. The panels are made of lignocellulosic material. The water resistant and skid resistant surface may include indicia for aligning strips of tape or for aligning fasteners. A method for manufacturing the water resistant building panels is also disclosed and includes the steps of feeding paper onto a forming belt, depositing lignocellulosic material and the binding agent onto the forming belt so as to form a lignocellulosic mat, applying heat and pressure so as to impart the skid resistant surface on the paper, and cutting panels to predetermined sizes.

A method for constructing a building structure, the method comprising: (a) fastening a first oriented strand board (OSB) panel to a frame structure, wherein the first OSB panel comprises a bulk water resistant barrier layer secured to an external facing surface of the first OSB panel;(b) fastening a second oriented strand board (OSB) panel to the frame structure and adjacent the first OSB panel; wherein the second OSB panel comprises a bulk water resistant barrier layer secured to an external facing surface of the second OSB panel; and(c) applying a bulk water resistant tape over a joint formed between the first OSB panel and the second OSB panel;wherein:the first OSB panel with the secured barrier layer and the second OSB panel with the secured barrier layer have a water vapor transmission rate from about 0.7 to about 7 grams/m2/24 hr, as determined by ASTM E96 procedure A (73° F.-50% RH); and/orthe first OSB panel with the secured barrier layer and the second OSB panel with the secured barrier layer have a water vapor permeance from about 0.1 to about 12 perms, as determined by ASTM E96 procedure B (73° F.-50% RH). 11. The method of claim 10, wherein the first OSB panel with the secured barrier layer and the second OSB panel with the secured barrier layer have a liquid water transmission rate from about 1 to about 28 grams/100 in2/24 hr, via Cobb ring in accordance with ASTM D5795. 12. The method of claim 10, wherein the building structure comprises a roof. 13. The method of claim 10, wherein the building structure comprises a wall. 14. The method of claim 10, wherein the method does not comprise a step of applying a layer of house wrap or felt paper. 15. The method of claim 10, wherein the barrier layer is secured to the external facing surface with an adhesive, and the barrier layer comprises a polymer. 16. The method of claim 10, wherein the joint is configured to allow for expansion and contraction of the first OSB panel and the second OSB panel. 17. The method of claim 10, wherein the bulk water resistant tape has a thickness of about 3.0 to about 34.0 mils. 18. The method of claim 10, wherein the bulk water resistant tape has a backing with a thickness of about 1.0 to about 4.0 mils and an adhesive layer of about 2.0 to about 30.0 mils. 19.
