An absorbent article having improved softness signals is disclosed. The article may include a topsheet or a backsheet including a nonwoven web. The web may have a basis weight of 30 gsm or less, may be formed of spunlaid fibers including polyolefin and up to 5 percent by weight TiO2, and may be impressed with a pattern of bond impressions to a bond area percentage of at least 10 percent forming a pattern of bonded regions and raised regions. The web may have opacity of 42 or greater; have an average height difference between bonded regions and raised regions of at least 280 μm; be hydroengorged; and/or have a cross-direction tensile strength of 350 gf/cm. A nonwoven web manufactured to have a suitable combination of such features exhibits an enhanced appearance of softness, soft tactile feel and satisfactory mechanical attributes, while being relatively cost effective.

1. An absorbent article adapted to be worn about a wearer's lower torso, having a longitudinal axis, and comprising: a liquid permeable topsheet;a liquid impermeable backsheet; andan absorbent core disposed between the topsheet and the backsheet, wherein the absorbent core is substantially cellulose free;wherein the topsheet comprises: a wearer-facing layer of a first nonwoven web, the first nonwoven web being impressed with a first pattern of bond impressions, the first pattern of bond impressions defining a second pattern of unbonded raised regions, wherein the unbonded raised regions have an Average Measured Height relative to the bond impressions of at least 280 μm, and wherein the first nonwoven web: is formed of spunlaid fibers comprising a polyolefin and up to 5.0% by weight TiO2;has a basis weight of 30 gsm or less; andhas a Bond Area Percentage of at least 10%; andwherein the backsheet comprises a laminate of: a wearer-facing layer of liquid impermeable film and a garment facing layer of asecond nonwoven web, the second nonwoven web being impressed with a first pattern of bond impressions, the first pattern of bond impressions defining a second pattern of unbonded raised regions, wherein the unbonded raised regions have an Average Measured Height relative to the bond impressions of at least 280 μm, and wherein the second nonwoven web: is formed of spunlaid fibers comprising a polyolefin and up to 5.0% by weight TiO2;has a basis weight of 30 gsm or less; andhas a Bond Area Percentage of at least 10%. 2. The article of claim 1, wherein the spunlaid fibers comprise polypropylene. 3. The article of claim 2, wherein the spunlaid fibers comprise at least 50% by weight polypropylene. 4. The article of claim 1, wherein substantially all of the spunlaid fibers are monocomponent fibers. 5. The article of claim 1, wherein the first nonwoven web or the second nonwoven web has a Tensile Strength in the machine direction of at least 900 gf/cm. 6. The article of claim 1, wherein the first nonwoven web or the second nonwoven web has a Tensile Strength in the cross direction of at least 300 gf/cm. 7. The article of claim 1, wherein the first nonwoven web or the second nonwoven web has a Total Stiffness of no more than 9.0 gf. 8. The article of claim 1, wherein the first pattern of bond impressions of the first nonwoven web or of the second nonwoven web comprises at least two adjacent, parallel, straight paths defined by the bond impressions, and wherein a line exists along each path, along which there are bonded lengths separated by unbonded lengths, and the ratio of total bonded length to total unbonded length (Bond Length Ratio) is at least 35% but less than 100%. 9. The article of claim 8, wherein the ratio of bonded lengths to unbonded lengths is less than 75%. 10. The article of claim 8, wherein the ratio of bonded lengths to unbonded lengths is less than 60%. 11.
