A system and method is provided for converting a drilling rig between conventional hydrostatic pressure drilling and managed pressure drilling or underbalanced drilling using a docking station housing mounted on a marine riser or bell nipple. This docking station housing may be positioned above the surface of the water. When a removable rotating control device is remotely hydraulically latched with the docking station housing, the system and method allows for interactive lubrication and cooling of the rotating control device, as needed, along with a supply of fluid for use with active seals.

The system of claim 4, wherein said data enables interactive operation of said valve. 6. The system of claim 2, further comprising: a sensor configured to detect at least one of temperature, pressure and density of the fluid. 7. The system of claim 1, further comprising: a sensor configured to detect a type of said rotating control device removably positioned with said housing. 8. The system of claim 1, further comprising: a sensor configured to detect whether said rotating control device requires lubrication. 9. The system of claim 8, further comprising: a sensor configured to detect whether said rotating control device requires cooling. 10. The system of claim 1, wherein said riser tensioner comprises a tension support line. 11. The system of claim 1, further comprising: a containment member disposed above said housing. 12. A system for drilling a borehole from a rig, comprising: a riser positioned above the borehole;a housing positioned above said riser;a rotating control device removably positioned with said housing;a latching assembly configured to latch said rotating control device with said housing;a slip joint configured to be movable between a retracted position and a telescoping position, and positioned above said riser;a riser tensioner disposed between said rig and said riser, and configured to support said riser; anda sensor configured to sense said rotating control device while removably positioned with said housing. 13. The system of claim 12, wherein said sensor comprises an electrical sensor. 14. The system of claim 12, wherein said sensor comprises a mechanical sensor. 15. The system of claim 12, wherein said sensor comprises a hydraulic sensor. 16. A system for drilling a borehole from a rig, comprising: a riser positioned above the borehole;a housing having a first channel and positioned above said riser;a rotating control device having a second channel removably aligned with said housing first channel and configured to communicate a fluid;a latching assembly configured to latch said rotating control device with said housing;a slip joint positioned above said riser; anda riser tensioner disposed between the rig and said riser and configured to support said riser. 17. The system of claim 16, further comprising: a valve configured to control flow of the fluid between said rotating control device second channel and said housing first channel; anda sensor configured to sense data of the fluid moving between said rotating control device and said housing, wherein said data enables interactive operation of said valve. 18. The system of claim 16, further comprising: a rotating seal disposed in said rotating control device;a sensor configured to detect revolutions per minute of said rotating seal of said rotating control device; anda pump configured to provide the fluid to said rotating control device in response to said detected revolutions per minute. 19. The system of claim 16, wherein said riser tensioner comprises a tension support line. 20. The system of claim 16, further comprising: a containment member disposed above said housing. 21. A system for drilling a borehole from a rig, comprising: a riser positioned above the borehole;a housing having a first channel and positioned above said riser;a rotating control device having a second channel removably aligned with said housing first channel and configured to communicate a fluid;a latching assembly configured to latch said rotating control device with said housing;a slip joint positioned above said housing; anda plurality of riser tensioners disposed between the rig and said riser and configured to support said riser. 22. The system of claim 21, further comprising: a valve configured to control flow of the fluid between said rotating control device second channel and said housing first channel; anda sensor configured to sense data of the fluid moving between said rotating control device and said housing, wherein said data enables interactive operation of said valve. 23. The system of claim 21, further comprising: a rotating seal disposed in said rotating control device;a sensor configured to detect revolutions per minute of said rotating seal of said rotating control device; anda pump configured to provide the fluid to said rotating control device in response to said detected revolutions per minute. 24. The system of claim 21, wherein said riser tensioners comprise a plurality of tension support lines. 25. The system of claim 21, further comprising: a containment member disposed above said housing. 26. A system for drilling a borehole from a rig, comprising: a riser positioned above the borehole;a housing having a first channel and positioned above said riser;a rotating control device having a second channel removably aligned with said housing first channel and configured to communicate a fluid;a latching assembly configured to latch said rotating control device with said housing;a first sensor configured to sense said rotating control device;a slip joint comprising a containment member and positioned above said housing; anda plurality of riser tensioners disposed between the rig and said riser and configured to support said riser. 27. The system of claim 26, further comprising: a valve configured to control flow of the fluid between said rotating control device second channel and said housing first channel; anda second sensor configured to sense data of the fluid moving between said rotating control device and said housing, wherein said data enables interactive operation of said valve. 28. The system of claim 26, further comprising: a rotating seal disposed in said rotating control device;a second sensor configured to detect revolutions per minute of said rotating seal of said rotating control device; anda pump configured to provide the fluid to said rotating control device in response to said detected revolutions per minute. 29. The system of claim 26, wherein said riser tensioners comprise a plurality of tension support lines.
