A holder configured to support an electronic display device, the holder comprising: a mounting plate including a front with slots configured to receive a back of the electronic display device, and the slots configured to receive arms, wherein each arm is configured to move independently of the other arms and is detachable from the mounting plate separately of the other arms; the arms are each slidably mounted in the slots and each include an end extending outward from the mounting plate;a locking mechanism releasably securing each of the arms to the mounting plate, and for each arm, a swiveling ledge is connected by a locking hinge to the end of the arm and configured to grasp an edge of the electronic display device;the locking mechanism is configured to lock the swiveling ledge in at least three discrete angular positions with respect to the arm, andwherein the locking mechanism includes a shaft having a first locking region with faceted sides on an outer circumference of the shaft, and a chamber coaxial with and receiving the shaft, and the chamber includes a second locking region with faceted sides on an inner wall of the chamber, and wherein the first locking region and second locking region are configured by virtue of the faceted sides to slidably engage to lock an angular position of the locking hinge and to allow the locking hinge to pivot. 2. The locking mechanism of claim 1 further comprising a spring that biases the shaft towards the locked position. 3. The locking mechanism of claim 1 further comprising a manually displaceable release post or button to urge the shaft axially from the locked position to the unlocked position. 4. The holder of claim 1 wherein an end of the arm that is adjacent to the locking hinge is beveled such the swiveling ledge can pivot to an angle below the horizontal position with respect to the arm. 5. A tablet holder comprising: a mounting plate including a front configured to releasably grasp a tablet display device and a back surface;a support stand configured to support the mounting plate and the table display device;a coupling joining the mounting plate and the support stand including a locking hinge configured to allow the mounting plate to pivot with respect to the support stand,the locking hinge includes:a first arm attached to the mounting plate and a second arm attached to the support stand, and a releasable locking hinge assembly mounted to the end of each of the arms, wherein the releasable locking hinge is configured to lock the first arm in at least three discrete angular positions with respect to the second arm, wherein the releasable locking hinge assembly includes a shaft having a first locking region with faceted sides on an outer circumference of the shaft, and a chamber coaxial with andreceiving the shaft, and the chamber includes a second locking region with faceted sides on an inner wall of the chamber, andwherein the first locking region and second locking region are configured by virtue of the faceted sides to slidably engage to lock an angular position of the locking hinge and to allow the locking hinge to pivot. 6. The tablet holder of claim 5 further comprising a spring biasing the shaft towards the locked position. 7. The tablet holder of claim 5 further comprising a release post or button configured to be manually displaced to urge the shaft axially along the longitudinal axis of the hinge in a direction to disengage the first and second locking regions, thereby allowing the first arm and second arm to pivot relative to each other. 8. The table holder of claim 5 wherein the first arm includes a stem having a first end pivotably coupled to a back of the mounting plate and a second end coupled to the locking hinge. 9. The tablet holder of claim 5 wherein the locking hinge is a first locking hinge and the support stand includes an upright arm and a base, and the tablet holder includes a second locking hinge coupling the upright arm to the base, and the second locking hinge includes: a first arm attached to the upright arm anda second arm attached to the base, and a releasable locking hinge assembly mounted to the end of each of the upright arm and the base, wherein the releasable locking hinge is configured to lock the upright arm in at least three discrete angular positions with respect to the base, wherein the releasable locking hinge assembly includes a shaft having a first locking region with faceted sides on an outer circumference of the shaft, and a chamber coaxial with andreceiving the shaft, and the chamber includes a second locking region with faceted sides on an inner wall of the chamber, andwherein the first locking region and second locking region are configured by virtue of the faceted sides to slidably engage to lock an angular position of the locking hinge and to allow the locking hinge to pivot. 10. The tablet holder of claim 9 further comprising a spring biasing the shaft towards the locked position. 11. The tablet holder of claim 9 further comprising a release post or button configured to be manually displaced to urge the shaft axially along the longitudinal axis of the hinge in a direction to disengage the first and second locking regions, thereby allowing the first arm and second arm to pivot relative to each other and for the upright arm to pivot with respect to the base. 12. A holder configured to support an electronic display device, the holder comprising: a mounting plate including a front configured to receive a back of the electronic display device,a swiveling ledge attached by a locking hinge to the mounting plate and configured to grasp an edge of the electronic display device;the locking hinge is configured to lock the swiveling ledge in at least three discrete angular positions with respect to the mounting plate, the locking hinge includes:a chamber fixed to one of the swiveling ledge and the mounting plate, and the chamber is coaxial with and receives the shaft, wherein the chamber includes a first locking region having facets, teeth and/or other non-cylindrical surface features on an inner wall of the chamber, anda shaft fixed to the other of the swiveling ledge and the mounting plate, and the shaft is slidably housed in, coaxial to and slides with respect to the chamber, and the shaft has a second locking region with facets, teeth and/or other non-cylindrical surface features on an outer circumference of the shaft,wherein the facets, teeth and/or other non-cylindrical surface features on the second locking region engage the facets, teeth and/or other non-cylindrical surface features on the first locking region while the shaft is at a locking position to lock an angular position of the swiveling ledge with respect to the mounting plate, andthe facets, teeth and/or other non-cylindrical surface features on the second locking region are displaced from the facets, teeth and/or other non-cylindrical surface features on the first locking region while the shaft is at an unlocked position, wherein the shaft slides along an axis of the shaft and chamber between the locked and unlocked positions. 13. The holder of claim 5 wherein the mounting plate includes at least one arm slidably engaged with a center portion of the mounting plate, and the locking hinge is attached to an end of the at least one arm. 14. The holder of claim 6 wherein the at least one arm includes a pair of arms extending from opposite sides of the center portion, and each of the pair of arms includes a respective locking hinge. 15. The holder of claim 6 wherein the at least one arm includes a ridge extending longitudinally along the arm and facing towards the back of the electronic display device, wherein the ridge supports the back while the electronic display device is held by the holder. 16. The holder of claim 8 wherein an end of the ridge adjacent the locking hinge is beveled such the swiveling ledge can pivot to form an angle less than 90 degrees with respect to the arm. 17. The holder of claim 5 wherein the locking hinge includes a default position at which the hinge is biased and sets a default angular position between the swiveling ledge and the mounting plate. 18. The holder of claim 5 further comprising a support stand and a ball and socket coupling assembly, wherein a ball of the coupling assembly is fixed to one of the mounting plate and the support stand and a socket of the coupling assembly is fixed to the other of the mounting plate and the support stand.
