The method of claim 1, wherein the mixture contains the at least one polyacrylic acid in an amount of from about 0.1 wt. % to about 25 wt. %. 4. A method of forming an adhesive matrix, comprising: establishing a mixture comprising at least one non-aqueous solvent and at least one polyacrylic acid on a substrate to form a deposit of the mixture on the substrate, wherein: the mixture contains the at least one non-aqueous solvent in an amount of from about 50 wt. % to about 99.9 wt. %;the mixture contains the at least one polyacrylic acid in an amount of from about 0.1 wt. % to about 25 wt. %; andat least a portion of the at least one non-aqueous solvent is evaporated from the deposit to produce the adhesive matrix. 5. The method of claim 1, wherein less than about 8 wt. % of the adhesive matrix is made up of residual solvent. 6. The method of claim 1, wherein, at at least one point in time within 90 days of forming the deposit on the substrate, less than about 8 wt. % of the adhesive matrix is made up of liquid. 7. The method of claim 1, wherein, at at least one point in time within 90 days of forming the deposit on the substrate, less than about 8 wt. % of the adhesive matrix is made up of residual solvent. 8. The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one non-aqueous solvent comprises at least one alcohol. 9. The method of claim 8, wherein the alcohol content of the solvent component of the mixture is at least about 50 wt. %. 10. The method of claim 8, wherein the at least one alcohol comprises at least one of methanol, ethanol, propanol, and butanol. 11. The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one polyacrylic acid comprises a polyacrylic acid crosslinked with pentaerythritol and/or allyl sucrose. 12. The method of claim 1, wherein the at least one polyacrylic acid comprises a polyacrylic acid crosslinked with divinyl glycol. 13. The method of claim 1, wherein the mixture contains less than or equal to about 0.1 wt. % water. 14. The method of claim 1, wherein the weight percentage of polyacrylic acid in the adhesive matrix is greater than or equal to about 90 wt. %. 15. The method of claim 1, wherein the substrate comprises small intestinal submucosa and/or fibrin. 16. The method of claim 1, wherein the adhesive matrix has a burst strength of at least about 100 mmHg gauge. 17. The method of claim 1, wherein the adhesive matrix has a lap shear adhesive strength of greater than or equal to about 1.0 pound force. 18. The method of claim 1, wherein the adhesive matrix has a thickness of less than about 1 mm. 19. The method of claim 1, wherein the mass of the adhesive matrix on the substrate is from about 2 mg/cm2 to about 35 g/cm2. 20. The method of claim 1, wherein the establishing the mixture comprises applying a pressure to the mixture and spraying the mixture through a nozzle. 21. The method of claim 1, wherein the adhesive matrix is a water-activated adhesive matrix. 22. The method of claim 4, wherein less than about 8 wt. % of the adhesive matrix is made up of residual solvent. 23. The method of claim 4, wherein, at at least one point in time within 90 days of forming the deposit on the substrate, less than about 8 wt. % of the adhesive matrix is made up of residual solvent. 24. The method of claim 4, wherein the at least one non-aqueous solvent comprises at least one alcohol. 25. The method of claim 24, wherein the alcohol content of the solvent component of the mixture is at least about 50 wt. %. 26. The method of claim 24, wherein the at least one alcohol comprises at least one of methanol, ethanol, propanol, and butanol. 27. The method of claim 4, wherein the at least one polyacrylic acid comprises a polyacrylic acid crosslinked with pentaerythritol and/or allyl sucrose. 28. The method of claim 4, wherein the at least one polyacrylic acid comprises a polyacrylic acid crosslinked with divinyl glycol. 29. The method of claim 4, wherein the mixture contains less than or equal to about 0.1 wt. % water. 30. The method of claim 4, wherein the adhesive matrix has a burst strength of at least about 100 mm Hg gauge. 31. The method of claim 4, wherein the adhesive matrix has a lap shear adhesive strength of greater than or equal to about 1.0 pound force. 32.
