The annular tyre overlay of claim 2, wherein the traction resistant reinforcements comprise fabric reinforcement. 5. The annular tyre overlay of claim 1, wherein the annular tyre overlay is U-shaped in form in cross-section, such that there are two flanges laterally of the tread surface. 6. The annular tyre overlay of claim 1, further comprising a side face connecting the overlay strip to the flange, wherein an angle between the side face and the overlay strip is in a range of between 30° and 60°. 7. The annular tyre overlay of claim 1, wherein the tread surface is non-patterned. 8.
