The disclosed embodiments provide a component for a portable electronic device. The component includes a gasket containing a rigid portion disposed around a bottom of a heat pipe, wherein the rigid portion forms a duct between a fan and an exhaust vent of the electronic device. The gasket also includes a first flexible portion bonded to the rigid portion, wherein the first flexible portion comprises a flap that is open during assembly of the heat pipe in the electronic device and closed over the heat pipe and the rigid portion to seal the duct around the heat pipe after the assembly.

1. An electronic device, comprising: a heat pipe comprising: a sealed housing including a first portion and a second portion, the sealed housing characterized by a first width,a wicking material disposed inside the first portion, wherein the wicking material is characterized by a second width less than the first width, and wherein the wicking material is disposed within the sealed housing along a central region of the sealed housing to define a vapor cavity on each side of the wicking material within the sealed housing, anda thermal transport liquid inside the sealed housing;a heat exchanger in contact with an outer surface of the second portion; andan electrical component that generates heat when powered, wherein the electrical component is in contact with an outer surface of the first portion. 2. The electronic device of claim 1, wherein the wicking material facilitates the flow of the thermal transport liquid away from the second portion. 3. The electronic device of claim 1, wherein the first portion comprises an evaporator region of the heat pipe. 4. The electronic device of claim 1, wherein the first portion comprises a central portion of the heat pipe. 5. The electronic device of claim 1, wherein the second portion comprises a condenser region of the heat pipe. 6. The electronic device of claim 1, wherein the second portion comprises an end portion of the heat pipe. 7. The electronic device of claim 1, wherein the second portion includes no wicking material. 8. The electronic device of claim 1, wherein the sealed housing further includes a third portion. 9. The electronic device of claim 8, wherein the first portion comprises an evaporator region at a central portion of the heat pipe, and wherein the second portion and third portion both comprise condenser regions at end portions of the heat pipe. 10. A heat pipe, comprising: a sealed housing including a first portion and a second portion, the sealed housing characterized by a first width;a wicking material disposed inside the first portion, wherein the wicking material is characterized by a second width less than the first width, wherein the wicking material is disposed within the sealed housing along a central region of the sealed housing to define a vapor cavity on each side of the wicking material within the sealed housing, and wherein each vapor cavity is maintained free of the wicking material;a thermal transport liquid inside the sealed housing; anda heat exchanger in contact with an outer surface of the second portion. 11. The heat pipe of claim 10, wherein the wicking material facilitates the flow of the thermal transport liquid away from the second portion. 12. The heat pipe of claim 10, wherein the first portion comprises an evaporator region of the heat pipe. 13. The heat pipe of claim 10, wherein the second portion comprises a condenser region of the heat pipe. 14. The heat pipe of claim 10, wherein the second portion includes no wicking material. 15. The heat pipe of claim 10, wherein the sealed housing further includes a third portion, wherein the first portion comprises an evaporator region at a center of the heat pipe, and wherein the second portion and third portion both comprise condenser regions at ends of the heat pipe. 16. A heat pipe, comprising: a sealed housing having an inner surface defining an internal volume, two vapor cavities maintained free of material, and two ends, wherein the sealed housing includes a wicking material along at least a portion of the inner surface and a thermal transport material in a liquid state, wherein the wicking material is disposed within the internal volume between the two vapor cavities and defining internal edges of the two vapor cavities within the internal volume of the sealed housing; andheat exchangers thermally coupled to the sealed housing at condenser regions proximate to the ends of the sealed housing, wherein the sealed housing is configured to support a two-phase bidirectional flow of the thermal transport material in the liquid state in the wicking material and in a gas state in the vapor cavities to transport thermal power over a distance from an evaporator region of the sealed housing to the heat exchangers, and wherein the heat exchangers are configured to transfer the thermal power from the sealed housing to an environment external to the heat pipe. 17. The heat pipe of claim 16, wherein the height of the heat pipe is less than or equal to 1.4 mm. 18. The heat pipe of claim 16, wherein a product of the thermal power and the distance is larger than or equal to 2,000 W-mm. 19. The heat pipe of claim 16, wherein, during operation of the heat pipe, the sealed housing is configured to reduce acoustic sound associated with bubbles of the gas phase of the thermal transport material. 20. The heat pipe of claim 16, wherein the wicking material is located at the evaporator region but not at the condenser regions.
