The rotary machine according to claim 1, wherein pressurized process fluid passes through the zone adjacent the labyrinth seal stator. 5. The rotary machine according to claim 1, wherein the sealing face portion, the first side portion and the second side portion are equal in thickness. 6. The rotary machine according to claim 1, the inner and outer surfaces of the sealing face portion are parallel, the inner and outer surfaces of the first side portion are parallel, the inner and outer surfaces of the second side portion are parallel, and the inner and outer surface of the third side surface are parallel. 7. The rotary machine according to claim 7, wherein pressurized process fluid passes through the zone adjacent the seal stator. 11. The rotary machine according to claim 7, wherein the sealing face portion, the first side portion and the second side portion are equal in thickness. 12.
