The method of claim 1, wherein the bifurcated valve assembly is coupled to actuators that are linked to an electronic system controller. 3. The method of claim 1, wherein the second valve is configured to release the selected one of the positive pressure or the negative pressure from the biopsy apparatus. 4. The method of claim 1, further comprising: releasing a positive pressure through the first valve and into the lumen of the cannula; andexpelling the tissue sample through the orifice of the lumen of the cannula. 5. The method of claim 1, further comprising: controlling the second valve to facilitate a building of negative pressure;generating a negative pressure in the pressure chamber, the pressure generator conducting the step of generating the negative pressure;inserting the orifice of the cannula into a body of tissue within a patient, wherein the orifice is covered by the cutting sheath;moving the cutting sheath in a proximal direction over the cannula to expose the orifice and to capture the tissue sample from the body of tissue in the lumen of the cannula;suctioning tissue through the orifice and into the lumen of the cannula, the suctioning resulting from the negative pressure generated by the pressure generator;covering the orifice in the lumen of the cannula while the orifice is positioned in the body of tissue to separate the sample from the body of tissue;removing the orifice from the body of tissue;generating a positive pressure in the pressure chamber through the operation of the second valve;generating the positive pressure in the lumen through the operation of the first valve; andsliding the cutting sheath in the proximal direction to expose the orifice and eject the tissue sample from the lumen. 6. A method for operating a biopsy apparatus, comprising: providing a housing;providing a cannula coupled to the housing and having a lumen, a proximal portion, a closed distal end, and an orifice configured to receive a tissue sample into the lumen of the cannula;providing a cutting sheath coaxially disposed with the cannula;moving the cutting sheath relative to the cannula;providing a pressure generating device positioned in the housing and coupled to the proximal portion of the cannula, the pressure generating device defining a pressure chamber;operating the pressure generating device to selectively generate each of a positive pressure and a negative pressure; andproviding a bifurcated valve assembly interposed between the cannula and the pressure generating device that is in fluid communication with each of the cannula and the pressure chamber, the bifurcated valve assembly including a first valve configured to release a selected one of the positive pressure or the negative pressure into the lumen of the cannula and having a second valve coupled between the first valve and the pressure chamber, the second valve configured to release the selected one of the positive pressure or the negative pressure from the biopsy apparatus; andproviding an electronic system controller configured to selectively control the first valve and the second valve. 7. The method of claim 6, wherein the second valve is configured to facilitate an inflow of air into the pressure chamber of the pressure generating device. 9. The method of claim 6, comprising operating the first valve to facilitate a build-up of the selected one of the positive pressure or the negative pressure, and subsequently operating the first valve to apply the selected one of the positive and the negative pressure to the lumen of the cannula. 10. The method of claim 6, further comprising: providing a piston within the pressure chamber; the piston is slidably disposed therein; and wherein the electronic system controller is configured to displace the piston within the pressure chamber to generate each of the positive pressure and the negative pressure. 11. The method of claim 6, further comprising: suctioning tissue through the orifice and into the lumen of the cannula, the suctioning resulting from a negative pressure generated by the pressure generator. 12. The method of claim 6, wherein the pressure chamber comprises a piston slidably disposed therein, whereby when the piston is displaced in a proximal direction, a negative pressure is generated in the pressure chamber; and whereby when the piston is displaced in a distal direction, a positive pressure is generated in the pressure chamber. 13.
