A phototherapy apparatus with interactive user interface for treating biological tissue of an animal or human target. The user interface comprises intuitive graphic menus which allow the clinicians or practitioners to define the properties of the biological tissue through easily observable physical characteristics such as weight, skin color, and hair color of the patient. The central control unit of the phototherapy apparatus then automatically optimizes the parameters of the light source according to the properties of the biological tissue and generates an appropriate treatment protocol to produce the optimum phototherapy result.

The method of claim 1, wherein the multiple first user interface elements include a first user interface element that graphically depicts a feline, a second user interface element that graphically depicts a canine, and a third user interface element that graphically depicts an equine. 3. The method of claim 1, wherein the multiple first user interface elements include a first user interface element with which user input is able to select a light animal color and a second user interface element with which user input is able to select a dark animal color. 4. The method of claim 1, wherein the second user interface screen further displays a user interface element that identifies pain as an animal condition, and with which user input is able to select pain as the animal condition. 5. The method of claim 1, wherein the phototherapy apparatus displays the second user interface screen after the phototherapy apparatus has displayed the first user interface screen and after the phototherapy apparatus has received the user input that selects the selected animal and the selected animal color. 6. The method of claim 1, wherein the third user interface screen further concurrently displays an indication of the selected animal. 7. The method of claim 6, wherein the third user interface screen further concurrently displays an indication of the selected animal color. 8. The method of claim 1, wherein the third user interface screen concurrently displays both the indication of the power of treatment and the indication of the energy of treatment, concurrently with the indication of the time of treatment. 9. The method of claim 1, wherein: the first user interface screen includes a home user interface element;the second user interface screen includes the home user interface element; andthe third user interface screen includes the home user interface element. 10. The method of claim 1, further comprising displaying a user interface element with which user input is able to select a selected animal weight. 11. The method of claim 1, wherein the phototherapy apparatus includes: (i) a main body that includes the touchscreen;(ii) a hand piece to output light for administration; and(iii) an optical fiber to deliver light to the hand piece. 12. The method of claim 1, wherein the indication of the time of treatment comprises an indication of time of treatment remaining. 13. A phototherapy apparatus, comprising: a light source to produce light;a central control unit that is configured to automatically select parameters of light for administration by the light source, in accordance with user inputs; anda touchscreen that is configured with the central control unit, through presentation of user interface elements that are to be indicated by the central control unit, to allow user input to define medical conditions and physical characteristics of an animal target by: displaying, by the touchscreen of the phototherapy apparatus on a first user interface screen, a presentation of multiple first user interface elements that identify multiple different animals and multiple different animal colors, and with which user input is able to select an animal and an animal color;receiving, by the phototherapy apparatus and through physical interaction with the touchscreen, user input that selects a selected animal of the multiple different animals and a selected animal color of the multiple different animal colors;displaying, by the touchscreen of the phototherapy apparatus on a second user interface screen, a graphical depiction of the selected animal;receiving, by the phototherapy apparatus and through physical interaction with the touchscreen, user input that selects a selected area of the selected animal for treatment;selecting, by the phototherapy apparatus, parameters of light for administration, in accordance with the user inputs that select the selected animal, the selected animal color, and the selected area of the selected animal; anddisplaying, by the touchscreen of the phototherapy apparatus after the phototherapy apparatus has received the user inputs that select the selected animal, the selected animal color, and the selected area of the selected animal, a third user interface screen that displays at least one of the parameters of light that were selected for administration, including concurrently displaying: (i) at least one of an indication of a power of treatment, and an indication of an energy of treatment, and(ii) an indication of a time of treatment. 14. The phototherapy apparatus of claim 13, wherein the multiple first user interface elements include a first user interface element that graphically depicts a feline, a second user interface element that graphically depicts a canine, and a third user interface element that graphically depicts an equine. 15. The phototherapy apparatus of claim 13, wherein the multiple first user interface elements include a first user interface element with which user input is able to select a light animal color and a second user interface element with which user input is able to select a dark animal color. 16. The phototherapy apparatus of claim 13, wherein the second user interface screen further displays a user interface element that identifies pain as an animal condition, and with which user input is able to select pain as the animal condition. 17. The phototherapy apparatus of claim 13, wherein the phototherapy apparatus displays the second user interface screen after the phototherapy apparatus has displayed the first user interface screen and after the phototherapy apparatus has received the user input that selects the selected animal and the selected animal color. 18. The phototherapy apparatus of claim 13, wherein the third user interface screen further concurrently displays an indication of the selected animal. 19. The phototherapy apparatus of claim 18, wherein the third user interface screen further concurrently displays an indication of the selected animal color. 20. The phototherapy apparatus of claim 13, wherein the third user interface screen concurrently displays both the indication of the power of treatment and the indication of the energy of treatment, concurrently with the indication of the time of treatment. 21. The phototherapy apparatus of claim 13, wherein: the first user interface screen includes a home user interface element;the second user interface screen includes the home user interface element; andthe third user interface screen includes the home user interface element. 22. The phototherapy apparatus of claim 13, wherein the phototherapy apparatus is further configured to display a user interface element with which user input is able to select a selected animal weight. 23. The phototherapy apparatus of claim 13, wherein the phototherapy apparatus includes: (i) a main body that includes the touchscreen;(ii) a hand piece to output light for administration; and(iii) an optical fiber to deliver light to the hand piece. 24.
