A computer based system for taking the physical inventory of liquids dispensed in full and partially full containers. A database stores images of containers and their associated volumes. The containers to be inventoried are identified by a user and input to a computer at a graphical user interface (GUI) input/output. A computer causes the display of an image of the container and a sliding level indicator at the GUI. The level indicator is slidable along the image. The computer calculates a volume of liquid remaining in the container as a function of the position of the level indicator along the image of the container.

The method of claim 1, wherein the identifying characteristic of the digital image includes a label associated with the open container. 3. The method of claim 1, further providing a server, the portable computing device transmitting at least the graphical user interface position of the movable position indicator to the server, the server calculating the volume of beverage remaining in the open container. 4. The method of claim 3, wherein the server aggregates the volume of beverage remaining in the open container with a volume of beverage in a number of filled containers to calculate a total beverage inventory. 5. The method of claim 1, wherein an establishment to be inventoried is comprised of sections, each section having at least one or more subsections, and the method further comprising the step of: inputting each section within an establishment into the portable computing device;inputting each sub-section of each section into the portable computing device; andinputting each container of beverage located in each sub-section of each section into the portable computing device, and storing a respective location of each container as a function of the section, the sub-section, and the establishment. 6. The method of claim 5, further comprising the step of providing a server, the server storing a library of digital images of two or more containers for beverage; forwarding a list of the digital images to the portable computing device, and selecting a container to be associated with a section by selecting the container from the list at the portable computing device. 7. The method of claim 1, further comprising the step of providing a second portable computing device having a graphical user interface and a second user providing a portable computing device having a graphical user interface; providing a-digital image of a second container corresponding to a second open container at the graphical user interface of the second portable computing device, the digital image including an identifying characteristic;providing a moveable position indicator at the graphical user interface of the second portable computing device;moving the position indicator of the second portable computing device along the image of the second open container to a position along the open container corresponding to an amount of beverage remaining in the actual container;calculating a volume of remaining beverage in the second open container as a function of the position of the graphical user interface indicator along the digital image of the second portable computing device. 8. The method of claim 7, further comprising the step of aggregating the volume of remaining beverage in the open container with the second volume of remaining beverage in the second open container. 9. The method of claim 1, wherein movement of the moveable position indicator at the graphical user interface to a position along the digital image of the open container corresponding to an open container causes at least a portion of the digital image to be clear. 10. The method of claim 9, wherein a remaining portion of the digital image is not clear and movement of the indicator to a position along the image changes that portion of the digital image which is not clear to clear. 11. The method of claim 1, further comprising a server in communication with the portable computing device and the server aggregating the number of filled containers and the volume of remaining beverage in the open container to determine a total volume, determining whether the total volume exceeds a predetermined level, and outputting an alert if the total volume does not exceed the predetermined value. 12. A system for taking the physical inventory of beverages dispensed in full and partially full containers comprising: a portable computing device having a graphical user interface;a library of digital images of containers to be inventoried from the portable computing device, each image of containers including an identifying characteristic;a digital image of a container to inventory being selectively displayed at the graphical user interface, the graphical user interface including a moveable position indicator, movable to a position along the digital image of the container relative to the identifying characteristic, and the portable computing device either calculating a volume of remaining beverage in an open container as a function of the position of the movable position indicator along the digital image or transmitting a position of the movable position indicator along the digital image. 13. The system of claim 12, wherein the identifying characteristic includes an image of the label associated with the container. 14. The system of claim 12, further comprising a server, the portable computing device transmitting the digital image and graphical user interface position to the server, the server calculating the volume of beverage remaining in the container. 15. The system of claim 14, wherein the graphical user interface receives a number corresponding to a number of unopened containers, and the system calculates the volume of the beverage contained in the unopened containers, and aggregates the volume of the beverage of the unopened containers with the volume of beverage remaining in the container. 16. The system of claim 12, further comprising a second portable computing device having a graphical user interface, the second portable computing device causing a digital image of a second container corresponding to a second open container to be shown at the graphical user interface of the second portable computing device, the digital image of the second container including a second identifying characteristic, the graphical user interface including a movable position indicator, movable to indicate a position along the digital image of the second open container corresponding to an amount of beverage remaining in an actual second container, the portable computing device either calculating a second volume of remaining beverage in the second open container as a function of the position of the movable position indicator along the digital image of the second portable computing device, or transmitting the position of the movable position indicator along the digital image of the second portable computing device. 17. The system of claim 16, further comprising a server, wherein the server receives the calculated volume of remaining beverage in the open container and the calculated volume of remaining beverage in the second container and aggregates the volume of remaining beverage in the open container with the second volume of remaining beverage in the second open container. 18. The system of claim 14, wherein movement of the movable position indicator causes the digital image to change appearance. 19. The system of claim 14, wherein the library of digital images is stored at the server. 20. The system of claim 14, wherein the server transmits a list of images of containers to the portable computing device, and the graphical user interface causing a respective image of a container to be selectively displayed at the graphical user interface. 21. The system of claim 12 further comprising: the library of digital images being organized to assign each digital image of the library of digital images to a designated location within the establishment;the digital image of the container to be inventoried being selectively displayed at the graphical user interface in an order corresponding to the designated location within the establishment, the graphical user interface including an input for receiving a number of inventoried containers counted; andthe graphical user interface enabling the user to select a next container in a section of the establishment to be inventoried by causing the graphical user interface to present the images in an order corresponding to locations of the containers within a subsection of the establishment. 22. The system of claim 21 further comprising: a camera, the camera capturing an image of the container and inputting the digital image to the portable computing device to create the library of digital images by storing the digital image; the portable computing device quantifying a volume of a beverage within the container. 23. The system of claim 22 further comprising the camera capturing the image by at least one of taking a picture of the container, a video of the container and panning over the container. 24. The method of claim 6 further comprising the step of associating each digital image of the list with a container corresponding to the digital image, the container being associated with a section. 25. The method of claim 1 further comprising the step of: determining an amount consumed as a function of the position of the graphical user interface indicator along the digital image; andreceiving an input as a function of beverage purchases made to determine an amount of goods sold and comparing the amount of goods sold to the amount consumed for a container of each beverage for which a volume of remaining beverage has been calculated. 26. The method of claim 25, wherein the input is from a point of sale device. 27. The method of claim 25 further comprising: creating a library of the digital images of the containers, the library being organized to assign each image of the library of images to a designated location within the establishment; the digital image of a container to be inventoried being selectively displayed at the graphical user interface in an order corresponding to the designated location within the establishment, receiving at graphical user interface a number of actual containers counted; and the graphical user interface enabling the user to select a next container in a section of the establishment to be inventoried by causing the graphical user interface to present the images in an order corresponding to locations of the containers within a subsection of the establishment. 28.
