A liquid dispensing system that includes a carrier having a storage tank disposed thereon for storing a liquid product. A boom is coupled to the carrier and includes a distribution hose through which the liquid product flows from the storage tank and into a number of liquid placement apparatuses. Each liquid placement apparatus includes a drop assembly coupled to the boom and extending downward. A base assembly is coupled to the lower end of the drop assembly and a hose assembly extends from the distribution hose to the base assembly. A lower hose assembly is protected within the base assembly and includes a pair of dribble hoses extruding from the base assembly. The liquid product is delivered proximate to the ground surface through the dribble hoses.

1. In a field with crops growing in adjacently spaced crop rows, a liquid dispensing apparatus for applying a liquid product onto a soil surface of the field adjacent the adjacently spaced crop rows, the liquid dispensing apparatus comprising: (a) a plurality of drop assemblies supported by and spaced laterally along a boom structure, the boom structure disposed at a height above a soil surface and extending laterally in a direction transverse to a forward direction of travel and transverse to the adjacently spaced crop rows, whereby each of the plurality of drop assemblies is positioned between two of the adjacently spaced crop rows, each of the plurality of drop assemblies comprising: (i) a drop member extending downwardly from the boom structure toward the soil surface between the two adjacently spaced crop rows;(ii) a lower portion of the drop member having rigid throughways diverging laterally outward from a forward end toward a rearward end, the forward end oriented toward the forward direction of travel, the rearward end extending rearward from the forward end; and(iii) a flexible dribble hose associated with an outlet end of each of the rigid throughways;(b) a supply hose communicating liquid product from a liquid product source to the flexible dribble hose, the supply hose extending at least partially through each of the rigid throughways;whereby, the liquid product is dribbled from an outlet end of the flexible dribble hose onto the soil surface adjacent one of the two adjacently spaced crop rows as the drop members travel in the forward direction of travel through the field between and parallel with the adjacently spaced crop rows. 2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein at least the lower portion of the drop member is rigid. 3. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein the rigid throughways extend from the rigid lower portion of the drop member. 4. The apparatus of claim 1, further including structure extending between the rigid throughways and rearward of the drop member. 5. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the flexible dribble hose is coupled to an outlet end of each of the rigid throughways. 6. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the flexible dribble hose extends at least partially through each of the rigid throughways. 7. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the lower portion of the drop member includes a base having a top member and a bottom member defining the rigid throughways. 8. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the lower portion of the drop member is flexibly coupled to an upper portion of the drop member, such that the lower portion of the drop member is capable of deflecting with respect to the upper portion of the drop member. 9. The apparatus of claim 2, wherein the rigid lower portion of the drop member is flexibly coupled to a rigid upper portion of the drop member, such that the rigid lower portion of the drop member is capable of deflecting with respect to the rigid upper portion of the drop member. 10. A method of applying liquid product to a soil surface proximate crops growing in a field, in adjacently spaced crop rows, the method comprising: (a) supporting and spacing a plurality of drop members along a boom structure disposed above a soil surface and oriented transverse to a forward direction of travel, such that each drop member is positioned between two of the adjacently spaced crop rows growing in the field, each of the plurality of drop members having: (i) a lower portion having rigid throughways diverging laterally outward from a forward end toward a rearward end, the forward end oriented toward the forward direction of travel, the rearward end extending rearward from the forward end, the rearward end having a lateral width greater than a lateral width of the forward end; and(ii) a flexible dribble hose associated with an outlet end of each of the rigid throughways;(b) communicating liquid product from a liquid product supply to each of the drop members via a supply hose, the supply hose extending at least partially through each of the rigid throughways;whereby, the rigid throughways of each of the drop members direct the liquid product in the outwardly and rearwardly diverging direction, the flexible dribble hose associated with the outlet end of each of the rigid throughways of each of the drop members delivering the liquid product onto the soil proximate the adjacently spaced crop rows as the drop members travel in the forward direction of travel through the field between and parallel with the adjacently spaced crop rows. 11. The method of claim 10, wherein at least the lower portion of the drop member is rigid. 12. The method of claim 11, wherein the rigid throughways extend from the rigid lower portion of the drop member. 13. The method of claim 10, further including structure extending between the rigid throughways and rearward of the drop member. 14. The method of claim 10, wherein the flexible dribble hose is coupled to an outlet end of each of the rigid throughways. 15. The method of claim 10, wherein the flexible dribble hose extends at least partially through each of the rigid throughways. 16. The method of claim 10, wherein the lower portion of the drop member includes a base having a top member and a bottom member defining the rigid throughways. 17. The method of claim 10, wherein the lower portion of the drop member is flexibly coupled to an upper portion of the drop member, such that the lower portion of the drop member is capable of deflecting with respect to the upper portion of the drop member. 18. The method of claim 11, wherein the rigid lower portion of the drop member is flexibly coupled to a rigid upper portion of the drop member, such that the rigid lower portion of the drop member is capable of deflecting with respect to the rigid upper portion of the drop member.
