1. A device for transportation comprising: a platform comprising: a forward portion;an intermediate portion;a rearward portion;an upper surface; anda lower surface;wherein the platform tapers inwardly along the intermediate portion from the forward portion to the rearward portion, wherein the forward portion has a first width and the rearward portion has a second width, the first width being larger the second width;a plurality of wheels connected with the platform, the plurality of wheels comprising a first wheel and a second wheel adjacent the forward portion and a third wheel disposed at least partially within the rearward portion; anda brake configured to engage with at least one of the plurality of wheels, the brake comprising: a contact portion; andan actuation portion, the actuation portion extending at least partially through the upper surface of the platform;the brake configured to move between a first position and a second position, wherein: in the first position the contact portion engages at least one of the plurality of wheels, thereby exerting a braking force on the at least one of the plurality of wheels; andin the second position the contact portion does not engage the at least one of the plurality of wheels;the brake being biased toward the first position. 2. The device for transportation of claim 1, further comprising a pivot around which the brake pivots. 3. The device for transportation of claim 1, wherein a portion of the brake is integral to the platform. 4. The device for transportation of claim 1, wherein the brake further comprises a biasing element. 5. The device for transportation of claim 4, wherein the biasing element comprises a spring, the spring exerting a biasing force on the brake. 6. A device for transportation comprising: a platform comprising a ride surface having a forward portion, an intermediate portion, a rearward portion, and an aperture in the ride surface in the intermediate portion, wherein the platform has a length extending in a riding direction, and wherein the platform generally smoothly tapers inwardly along the intermediate portion from the forward portion to the rearward portion;a plurality of wheels connected with the platform, the plurality of wheels comprising at least two front wheels adjacent the forward portion and at least one rear wheel adjacent the rearward portion; anda brake engageable with at least one of the plurality of wheels, the brake comprising a wheel contacting portion and a foot contacting portion located in the aperture, wherein the brake has a first state in which the wheel contacting portion causes a braking effect on the at least one wheel of the plurality of wheels and a second state in which the contacting portion does not cause a braking effect on the at least one of the plurality of wheels, and actuation of the foot contacting portion causes a transition from the first state to the second state, wherein the brake further comprises a biasing element tending to bias the brake. 7. The device for transportation of claim 6, further comprising a pivot around which the brake pivots. 8. The device for transportation of claim 6, wherein a portion of the brake is integral to the platform. 9. The device for transportation of claim 6, wherein the biasing element further comprises a spring, the spring exerting a force on the brake to bias the brake away from the second state and toward the first state. 10. A transportation device comprising: a platform configured to support a user's foot, the platform comprising: a lower ride surface having a first height, the lower ride surface extending along a forward portion and an intermediate portion of the platform; andan upper ride surface having a second height that is higher than the first height, the upper ride surface extending along a rearward portion of the platform;wherein the forward portion has a first width and the rearward portion has a second width, and wherein the first width is larger than the second width;a first front wheel and a second front wheel adjacent the forward portion of the platform, wherein the forward portion of the platform is positioned between the first and second front wheels;a rear wheel adjacent the rearward portion of the platform; andan axle extending between the first and second front wheels and located in an axle mounting system, the axle mounting system comprising an axle bearing surface and a pivot member;wherein the pivot member creates a pivot about which the axle can pivot to turn the device and the axle bearing surface supports the axle during the pivot and extends transversely to a longitudinal axis of the platform. 11. The transportation device of claim 10, further comprising a brake coupled to the platform, wherein the brake is at least partially exposed through the platform. 12. The transportation device of claim 10, wherein the axle bearing surface supports the axle adjacent each of the first and second front wheels. 13. The transportation device of claim 10, wherein the axle bearing surface comprises a curved portion. 14. The transportation device of claim 10, wherein the axle bearing surface comprises two or more substantially planar portions. 15. The transportation device of claim 11, wherein the brake is rotatably supported by the platform and comprises a contact portion and an actuation portion. 16. The transportation device of claim 15, wherein the brake is biased toward a position in which the contact portion contacts at least one of the wheels when the actuation portion is not actuated. 17. The transportation device of claim 10, wherein the pivot member comprises a portion having a substantially triangular cross-section. 18. The transportation device of claim 10, wherein the pivot member is positioned entirely under the platform. 19. The transportation device of claim 10, wherein the pivot member is positioned in a lateral center of the device. 20. The transportation device of claim 10, wherein the axle bearing surface is substantially v-shaped. 21. The transportation device of claim 10, wherein the device is configured such that, during turning of the device, a first end of the axle moves downward and an opposite end of the axle moves upward.
