The assembly of claim 1 wherein the base member includes a through hole and the cover includes a threaded through hole and further comprising a fastener received through the through hole in the base member and threadedly engaged with the threaded through hole in the cover. 5. The assembly of claim 1 wherein the perimeter side walls extend perpendicularly in a first direction from the floor. 6. The assembly of claim 5 further comprising a plurality of second side walls extending a second direction opposite the first direction, the plurality of perimeter side walls being disposed radially outside the plurality of second side walls. 7. The assembly of claim 1 wherein the point light sources are light emitting diodes. 8. The assembly of claim 1 wherein each lens is sized and shaped to correspond to a respective rectangular shaped through hole. 9. A post cap assembly, comprising: a base member having a generally square shape and comprising a floor and a plurality of perimeter side walls, the base member being configured to receive an upper end of a post;a glow ring formed of a transparent or translucent material and having a central portion and a perimeter portion, the central portion defining a recessed region including a recessed surface;a central light source coupled to the central portion of the glow ring and disposed within the recessed region to transmit light radially through the central portion to illuminate the perimeter portion; anda cover having perimeter side walls and a roof and being configured to be secured to the base member and sandwich the glow ring therebetween, the roof of the cover having a shape of a truncated pyramid. 10. The assembly of claim 9 wherein the glow ring is formed of a translucent material. 11. The assembly of claim 9 wherein the base member defines an opening configured to receive at least on electrical wire associated with the central light source. 12. The assembly of claim 11 wherein the perimeter side walls extend perpendicularly in a first direction from the floor. 13. The assembly of claim 12 further comprising a plurality of second side walls extending a second direction opposite the first direction, the plurality of perimeter side walls being disposed radially outside the plurality of second side walls. 14. The assembly of claim 13 wherein the central light source comprises at least one light emitting diode. 15. A lighted post cap assembly, comprising: a base member having a generally square shape and comprising a floor, a plurality of first perimeter side walls extending perpendicularly from the floor in a first direction and a plurality of second side walls extending in a second direction opposite the first direction and being configured to receive an upper end of a post, a bottom surface disposed radially between the plurality of first perimeter side walls and the plurality of second side walls, the floor defining an opening, a plurality of alignment guides, and a plurality of rectangular shaped through holes, each alignment guide and each rectangular shaped through hole being disposed proximate a respective perimeter side wall;a plurality of light sources each comprising a plurality of light emitting diodes contained within a housing, each light source received by a respective alignment guide at a respective rectangular shaped through hole and oriented downward to illuminate a perimeter of the post, each housing supporting a lens, the lens configured to refract light emitted from the plurality of light emitting diodes, and an electrical wire associated with at least one of the plurality of light sources extending through the opening in the floor; anda cover having perimeter side walls and a roof and being configured to be secured to the base member, the roof of the cover having a shape of a truncated pyramid. 16. The assembly of claim 15 wherein each lens is sized and shaped to correspond to a respective rectangular shaped through hole. 17.
