A system associated with a medical treatment device for detecting a condition of a patient includes an input device including at least a camera or a microphone. The system also includes a medical treatment device with a controller/classifier and at least one of flow controller, a pump, and/or an alarm output. The controller/classifier has at least a video-image processor or an audio processor configured to recognize a face and a body or to recognize changes in skin color, facial expression, or body position. The controller/classifier may also recognize speech and classify predefined normal and irregular sound patterns, and output state data corresponding thereto. The controller/classifier is connected to apply the state data to the at least one flow controller, pump, and/or alarm output. The controller/classifier is further adapted to control the at least one flow controller, pump, and/or alarm output responsively to the state data.

1. A system associated with a medical treatment device for detecting a condition of a patient, the system comprising: an input device including at least one of a camera adapted to gather video/image data and a microphone; anda medical treatment device with a controller/classifier and at least one flow controller, a pump, and/or an alarm output; andthe controller/classifier having at least one of a video-image processor and an audio processor adapted to at least one of: recognize a face and a body in said video/image data and further to recognize changes in skin color, facial expression, or body position and further to output state data indicating the recognized changes or the recognized body position; andrecognize speech and to classify predefined normal and irregular sound patterns and further to output state data corresponding to the recognizing of the speech, whereinthe controller/classifier is connected to apply the state data to the at least one flow controller, pump, and/or alarm output;the controller/classifier is further adapted to control the at least one flow controller, pump, and/or alarm output responsively to the state data, andwherein the state data includes data indicating a leak of blood from a patient access. 2. The system of claim 1, wherein the at least one of a video-image processor and an audio processor includes an audio processor and the audio processor is adapted to recognize presence of individuals other than the patient. 3. The system of claim 2, wherein the individuals other than the patient include children. 4. The system of claim 2, wherein the controller/classifier is further adapted to alert an attendant responsively to a state indicating the presence of individuals other than the patient. 5. The system of claim 1, wherein the at least one of a video-image processor and an audio processor includes a video-image processor adapted to recognize blood. 6. The system of claim 1, wherein the at least one of a video-image processor and an audio processor includes a video-image processor adapted to skin color of a patient. 7. The system of claim 1, wherein the state data includes data indicating a distressed state of a patient indicated by a recognized combination of body joint angles. 8. The system of claim 1, wherein the state data includes data indicating a distressed state of a patient indicated by a recognized facial expression. 9. The system of claim 1, wherein the state data includes data indicating a patient is breathing or snoring. 10. A system associated with a medical treatment device for detecting a condition of a patient, the system comprising: an input device including at least one of a camera adapted to gather video/image data and a microphone; anda medical treatment device with a controller/classifier and at least one flow controller, a pump, and/or an alarm output; andthe controller/classifier having at least one of a video-image processor and an audio processor adapted to at least one of: recognize a face and a body in said video/image data and further to recognize changes in skin color, facial expression, or body position and further to output state data indicating the recognized changes or the recognized body position; andrecognize speech and to classify predefined normal and irregular sound patterns and further to output state data corresponding to the recognizing of the speech, whereinthe controller/classifier is connected to apply the state data to the at least one flow controller, pump, and/or alarm output, the controller/classifier is further adapted to control the at least one flow controller, pump, and/or alarm output responsively to the state data, and whereinthe controller/classifier is configured to combine the state data with data from at least one of a continuity detector,a pressure detector, andblood oxygen andfurther configured to classify a blood leak responsively to the combined state data and the data from the at least one of the continuity detector, the pressure detector, and the blood oxygen, andfurther configured to output a result of the classifying.
