Disclosed herein are energetic compositions and methods of making thereof. A composition includes particles of a nitrogen-containing oxidizer dispersed in a polymeric binder and a bonding agent bonded to a surface of at least a portion the particles. The bonding agent disclosed is a Lewis acid.

The composition of claim 1, wherein the nitrogen-containing oxidizer is cyclotetramethylenetetranitramine, cyclotrimethylenetrinitramine, ammonium nitrate, ammonium dinitramide, nitrogen tetroxide, or any combination thereof. 5. The composition of claim 1, wherein the bonding agent is bonded to the nitrogen-containing oxidizer with a chemical bond or an adhesive bond. 6. The composition of claim 1, wherein the Lewis acid is a compound comprising metal cations. 7. The composition of claim 1, wherein the Lewis acid is a boron-containing monomer having the following structure: wherein x, y, and z are each independently a hydrogen, an acrylate group, an acyl halide group, an amide group, an amine group, a carboxylate group, a carboxylate thiol group, an ester group, an ether group, a hydroxamic acid group, a hydroxyl group, a nitrate group, a nitrile group, a phosphate group, a phosphine group, a phosphonic acid group, a silane group, a sulfate group, a sulfide group, a sulfite group, a thiolate group, an alkane group, an alkene group, an alkyne group, an aryl group, an azide group, an acetal group, an aldehyde group, a diene group, a 3-membered ring group, 4-membered ring group, a 5-membered ring group, or a 6-membered ring group, or any combination thereof. 8. The propellant composition of claim 1, wherein the Lewis acid is a boron-containing polymer having the following structure: wherein n is an integer from 1 to 20, and x and y are each independently a hydrogen, an acrylate group, an acyl halide group, an amide group, an amine group, a carboxylate group, a carboxylate thiol group, an ester group, an ether group, a hydroxamic acid group, a hydroxyl group, a methacrylate group, a nitrate group, a nitrile group, a phosphate group, a phosphine group, a phosphonic acid group, a silane group, a sulfate group, a sulfide group, a sulfite group, a thiolate group, an alkane group, an alkene group, an alkyne group, an azide group, an acetal group, an aldehyde group, a diene group, an anhydride group, a 3-membered ring group, 4-membered ring group, a 5-membered ring group, or a 6-membered ring group, or any combination thereof. 9. A composition comprising: nitrogen-containing oxidizer particles dispersed in a polymeric binder; anda Lewis acid bonding agent bonded to at least a portion of a surface the nitrogen-containing oxidizer particles to form an encapsulating film;wherein the Lewis acid bonding agent is an electron pair acceptor that forms a Lewis adduct with the nitrogen-containing oxidizer by sharing a pair of electrons. 10. The composition of claim 9, wherein the Lewis acid bonding agent is a boron-containing copolymer having the following structure: wherein n is an integer from 1 to 20, m is an integer from 1 to 20, and x, y, and z are each independently a hydrogen, an acrylate group, an acyl halide group, an amide group, an amine group, a carboxylate group, a carboxylate thiol group, an ester group, an ether group, a hydroxamic acid group, a hydroxyl group, a methacrylate group, a nitrate group, a nitrile group, a phosphate group, a phosphine group, a phosphonic acid group, a silane group, a sulfate group, a sulfide group, a sulfite group, a thiolate group, an alkane group, an alkene group, an alkyne group, an azide group, an acetal group, an aldehyde group, a diene group, an anhydride group, a 3-membered ring group, 4-membered ring group, a 5-membered ring group, or a 6-membered ring group, or any combination thereof. 11. The composition of claim 9, wherein the nitrogen-containing oxidizer particles have an average diameter in a range between about 50 and about 200 microns. 12. The composition of claim 9, further comprising a polyisocyanate. 13. The composition of claim 9, wherein the Lewis acid is an enone compound. 14. The composition of claim 13, wherein the enone compound is methyl vinyl ketone. 15. A method of making a composition, the method comprising: coating at least a portion of a surface of nitrogen-containing oxidizer particles with a Lewis acid bonding agent to form a coated nitrogen-containing oxidizer; andmixing the coated nitrogen-containing oxidizer with a polymeric binder to form the composition;wherein the Lewis acid bonding agent forms a Lewis adduct with the nitrogen-containing oxidizer. 16. The method of claim 15, wherein the Lewis acid bonding agent is a boron-containing monomer having the following structure: wherein x, y, and z are each independently a hydrogen, an acrylate group, an acyl halide group, an amide group, an amine group, a carboxylate group, a carboxylate thiol group, an ester group, an ether group, a hydroxamic acid group, a hydroxyl group, a methacrylate group, a nitrate group, a nitrile group, a phosphate group, a phosphine group, a phosphonic acid group, a silane group, a sulfate group, a sulfide group, a sulfite group, a thiolate group, an alkane group, an alkene group, an alkyne group, an azide group, an acetal group, an aldehyde group, a diene group, an anhydride group, a 3-membered ring group, 4-membered ring group, a 5-membered ring group, or a 6-membered ring group, or any combination thereof. 17. The method of claim 15, wherein the Lewis acid is a boron-containing polymer having the following structure: wherein n is an integer from 1 to 20, and x and y are each independently a hydrogen, an acrylate group, an acyl halide group, an amide group, an amine group, a carboxylate group, a carboxylate thiol group, an ester group, an ether group, a hydroxamic acid group, a hydroxyl group, a methacrylate group, a nitrate group, a nitrile group, a phosphate group, a phosphine group, a phosphonic acid group, a silane group, a sulfate group, a sulfide group, a sulfite group, a thiolate group, an alkane group, an alkene group, an alkyne group, an azide group, an acetal group, an aldehyde group, a diene group, an anhydride group, a 3-membered ring group, 4-membered ring group, a 5-membered ring group, or a 6-membered ring group, or any combination thereof. 18. The method of claim 15, wherein the wherein the nitrogen-containing oxidizer particles are cyclotetramethylenetetranitramine, cyclotrimethylenetrinitramine, ammonium nitrate, ammonium dinitramide, nitrogen tetroxide, or any combination thereof. 19. The method of claim 15, wherein the composition is a propellant or an explosive. 20. The method of claim 15, further comprising curing the composition.
