1. An end effector for use by a surgeon to staple an anatomical structure of a patient during a minimally invasive procedure, the anatomical structure having a first side and a second side, the end effector comprising: an anvil that includes a proximal end, a distal end, and a face, having a longitudinal axis, that is positionable on the first side of the anatomical structure;a cartridge that is configured to house a plurality of staples and that includes a proximal end, a distal end, and a face, having a longitudinal axis, that is positionable on the second side of the anatomical structure;a compression mechanism that movably couples the proximal end of the anvil to the proximal end of the cartridge;a distal hinge including a pin that pivotally couples the distal end of the anvil and the distal end of the cartridge, wherein the pin is transverse relative to the longitudinal axis of the cartridge and the longitudinal axis of the anvil;wherein each of the anvil and the cartridge is insertable through a trocar, and the end effector is remotely operable from outside the patient with at least a portion of one of the anvil and the cartridge being movable toward the other to clamp the end effector to the anatomical structure. 2. The end effector of claim 1, further comprising a knife having an I-shaped configuration, wherein the knife is operably configured to be urged from a distal position to a proximal position to transect the anatomical structure. 3. The end effector of claim 1, wherein the proximal end of the anvil is slidably coupled with the proximal end of the cartridge. 4. The end effector of claim 3, wherein the compression mechanism further comprises a compression slide in slidable engagement with a compression pin. 5. The end effector of claim 4, wherein the compression slide is aligned such that the compression slide is parallel to a longitudinal axis of the anvil. 6. An end effector for use by a surgeon to staple an anatomical structure of a patient during a minimally invasive procedure, the anatomical structure having a first side and a second side, the end effector comprising: an anvil that includes a first end, a second end, and a face, having a longitudinal axis, that is positionable on the first side of the anatomical structure;a cartridge that is configured to house a plurality of staples and that includes a first end, a second end, and a face, having a longitudinal axis, that is positionable on the second side of the anatomical structure; anda compression mechanism that movably couples the first end of the anvil to the first end of the cartridge, the compression mechanism comprising; a. a compression slide; andb. a compression pin operably configured to translate within the compression slide to compress the anatomical structure between the anvil and the cartridge;a distal hinge including a pin that pivotally couples the second end of the anvil and the second end of the cartridge, wherein the pin is transverse relative to the longitudinal axis of the cartridge and the longitudinal axis of the anvil;wherein each of the anvil and the cartridge is insertable through a trocar and the end effector is remotely operable from outside the patient with at least a portion of one of the anvil and the cartridge being movable toward the other to clamp the end effector to the anatomical structure. 7. The end effector of claim 6, wherein the first end of the anvil is a proximal end of the anvil and the second end of the anvil is a distal end of the anvil. 8. The end effector of claim 6, further comprising a knife having an I-shaped configuration, wherein the knife is operably configured to be urged from a distal position to a proximal position to transect the anatomical structure. 9. The end effector of claim 6, wherein the compression mechanism further comprises a compression cable operably configured to urge the compression pin in a proximal direction within the compression slide. 10. The end effector of claim 6, wherein the compression mechanism further comprises a compression wedge. 11. The end effector of claim 6, wherein the compression pin is configured to transition from a first distal position within the compression slide when the end effector is in an open position to a second proximal position within the compression slide when the end effector is in a closed position. 12. An end effector for use by a surgeon to staple an anatomical structure of a patient during a minimally invasive procedure, the anatomical structure having a first side and a second side, the end effector comprising: an anvil that includes a first end, a second end, and a face, having a longitudinal axis, that is positionable on the first side of the anatomical structure;a cartridge that is configured to house a plurality of staples and that includes a first end, a second end, and a face, having a longitudinal axis, that is positionable on the second side of the anatomical structure; anda compression mechanism that movably couples the first end of the anvil to the first end of the cartridge, the compression mechanism comprising; a. a compression housing;b. a compression slide defined by the compression housing; andc. a compression pin operably configured to translate within the compression slide to compress the anatomical structure between the anvil and the cartridge;a distal hinge including a pin that pivotally couples the second end of the anvil and the second end of the cartridge, wherein the pin is transverse relative to the longitudinal axis of the cartridge and the longitudinal axis of the anvil;wherein the second end of the anvil is pivotally coupled to the second end of the cartridge, each of the anvil and the cartridge is insertable through a trocar, and the end effector is remotely operable from outside the patient with at least a portion of one of the anvil and the cartridge being movable toward the other to clamp the end effector to the anatomical structure. 13. The end effector of claim 12, wherein the first end of the anvil is a proximal end of the anvil and the second end of the anvil is a distal end of the anvil. 14. The end effector of claim 12, further comprising a knife having an I-shaped configuration, wherein the knife is operably configured to be urged from a distal position to a proximal position to transect the anatomical structure. 15. The end effector of claim 12, wherein the compression mechanism further comprises a compression cable operably configured to urge the compression pin in a proximal direction within the compression slide. 16. The end effector of claim 12, wherein the compression pin is configured to transition from a first distal position within the compression slide when the end effector is in an open position to a second proximal position within the compression slide when the end effector is in a closed position.
