Nd??xSrxCoO?
GdFeO? Eu??xSrxCoO?

LnCoO? and Ln??xSrxCoO? systems (Ln= Nd and Gd: x0.25, and 0.75) where Sr stoms were substituted for Ln atoms having lower oxidation state compared to the lanthanide stoms, were synthesized by solid state reaction and their structures and electrical properties were analyzed using X-ray powder diffraction, IR spectroscopy, themal analysis, and measurements of density, electrical conductivity and Seeback coefficient.
Nd??xSrxCoO? and Gd??xSrxCoO? systems show the SrCoO?.? structure for x ≥ 0.25 and x ≥ 0.50, respectively. Each sample has the different physical properties according to the prepared temperature. For the asmples prepared at low temperature, many Co?? ions are formed whereas for those prepared at high temperature, lost of oxygen vacanies do rather than Co?? ions. It is concluded from the electrical properties that for the samples prepared at high temperature the activation energy and the transition temperature of collective- vs localized-electrons increase due to the narrow band formed by Co?? ions while for the samples prepared at low temperature the activation energy and the transition temperature decrease due to the broad Co?? band caused by a lot of Co?? ions. Eu??xSrxCoO??y systems where x= 0.00, 0.25, 0.50, and 0.75 were synthesized by the solid state reaction, and their structures were analized by XRD, SEM, and IR spectroscopy. The electrical conduction mechanism was proposed based on the electrical conductivity and Seebeck coefficient measurements. The structures show orthorhombic between 0.00 and 0.25 and cubic between 0.30 and 0.90 respectively. The nature of Co-O bonds which have close relationship with electrical conductivity was found to be unaffected by the Sr substitution based on the IR spectra. Electrical conductivity increased with Sr substitution up to x= 0.50 but decreased at x= 0.75. The transiton temperatures from semiconductor to metallic were decreased with Sr concentration. P-ytpe conduction was confirmed by Seebeck coefficients and oxygen partial pressure dependence of the electrical conductivity. Conduction depends on Co(sup)(IV) concentrations foremed by Sr?? substitution and the nonstoichiometry. Nor only the mobility but also the change of hole concentrations is contributing to the electrical conductivity. The conduction mechanism is suggested to be highly ordered transition due to the termal broadenings of Co(sup)(IV) impurity band formed between π* and σ* bands and π* band.
In the perovskite La??xSrxCoO??y (Ln= Nd, Gd, and Eu) systems, the reduced lattice volume is intreased with substitution of the large Sr?? ions in place of the Ln?? ions. The mole ratio of the Co?? ion or the τ-value is maximum for the solid solutions of the composition of x= 0.50, and the oxygen vacancy or the y-value increase with x value for all the systems. Nonstoichiometric chemical formulas of the all solid solutions corresponding to the x values are reasonably formulated. The solid solutions for the compositions of x= 0.00 ∼0,75 have the paramagnetism at temperature range of 298 K to 800 K. The SrCoO?.?? of the composition of x=1.00 prepared under atmospheric air pressure has antiferromagnetism with Neel temperature at 550 K. The SrCoO?.?? prepared under 1 atm oxygen pressure shows a weak feffomagnetism by the canting of the sublattice. The paramagnetic Curie temperature, θ(sub)(p), increases with the τ-value and shows positive value in the composition of x= 0.50 The effective magnetic moment of the only Co-ion or μeff-Co is inversely proportional to the τ-value.
From the fact Ln??xSrxCoO??y (Ln = Nd, Gd, Eu) would be a good conductor with oxidation catalytic effect of CO, we have studied its potential possibility as a catalytic cathode in the sealed-off CO? laser. We made the electrode with variation of Sr replacement (x value) and discharge-tube which is correspond to a sealed-off CO? laser. The concentration of CO? in the cavity-tube measured directly using proto-acoustic spectroscopy as a function of discharging time. As a result, Nd?.?Sr?.?CoO? system would be the best suitable catalytic cathode. In addition to experimental work, numerical model simulations have performed using chemical kinetics with suitable assumption for electronic effect to the electrode.
The crystallographic and optical properties of Ln??xSrxCoO??y (Ln= Nd, Gd, Eu) system perovskite were studied by the use of XRD, Raman, FT-IR, SEM (EDX), and XPS spectroscopic techniques. The variations of their binding energies and vibrational energies according to the composition of metal and oxygne were analyzed to give the information on their microstructures and crystal structures on the perovskite compounds. We also utilyzed the optoacoustic technique to monitor the catalytic activities of Ln??xSrxCoO??y for the CO oxidation reation with respect to the reaction time and temperature along with the metal composition. The best conditions of catalytic characteristic of CO oxidation have been found to be in the case of substitution of Nd for Ln, and x= 0.25 for Sr. It seems that this technique possesses substantial improvements for the general problems in ordinary kinetic measurements such as in situ detection of reaction species.
The oxidation of carbon monoxide in the presence of a powdered Ln??xSrxCoO??y (Ln= Nd, Gd, Eu) perovskite as a catalyst has been investigated in the temperature range from 100 to 350 ℃ under various CO and O? partial pressures. The site of Sr substitution, nonstoichiometry, structure, and micro-crystal structure were studied by means of powder X-ray diffraction and infrared spectroscopy. The electrical conductivity of the catalyst has been measured under various CO and O? partial pressures. The oxidation rates has been correlated with 1.5-order kinetics with CO? trap and first-and 0.5-order with respect to CO and O? on Ln??xSrxCoO??y catalysts. The activation energy is found to be 0.35∼0.52 eV. From the infrared spectroscopy. conductivity, and kinetic data, CO appears essentially to be chemisorbed on the lattice oxygen, which O? absorbs as ions on the oxygen vacancy formed by Sr substitution. The main defect of Ln??xSrxCoO??y catalyst is an oxygen vacancy and the product CO? is involved in the oxidation mechanism.
