Wetlands placed between upland and aquatic systems can remove contaminants from water body by adsorption, sedimentation, and biological mechanisms. However these removal capacity of wetlands depends on wetland conditions such as soil type, water fluctuation, vegetation type and so on. To investigate the contaminant such as nitrogen, phosphate, TNT and pharation removal efficiencies, we constructed wetland microcosms and mesocosm which were marsh and pond type. Nitrite reductase (nirS) genes were analyzed by T - RFLP analysis to investigate the community structure of denitrifiers with analysis of contaminants removal efficiencies. We also conducted the substantial experiment to investigate the phosphate adsorption and desorption capacity of wetland when wetland was exposed to drying and reflooding. Nitrate and phosphate removal efficiencies were high in microcosm and mesocosm wetland systems by denitrification and adsorption mechanisms, respectively. However, nitrate removal efficiency decreased as temperature decreased. In substantial experiment, after the drying and flooding events in wetlands phosphatase activity significantly increased and phosphate was released from soil into water. The pattern of T-RFs showed a high level of diversity and changes in community structure during wetland operation. nirS diversity was significantly related with denitrifying enzyme activity and $N_2O$ production in a marsh-type wetland, while that is related with nitrate concentration in a pond-type wetland.
