Wastes plastics, especially thermodynamics, can be regarded as being a cheap and abundant source of chemicals and energy. One approach is to employ inert gas pyrolysis to produce oils using zeolite catalysts. In the present subject, we study catalytic degradation of plastic in a fixed-bed reactor. Natural zeolites with different pretreatment procedures be screened and tested for the performance in plastic degradation. Among various plastics, polyethylene, polypropylene and polystyrene, and their mixtures were selected for degradation to produce liquid fuel oil in the temperature range of 350-450℃. Contents of Research The main topics of this study were as follows: (1) Preparation and characterization of natural zeolite catalysts (2) Catalytic degradation of single and mixed plastics in a fixed-bed reactor (3) Distribution of carbon numbers in fuel oil produced by the degradation (4) Interactions of each plastic material in the degradation (5) Performance of halloysite and montmorillonite in catalytic degradation of plastics (6) Kinetic modeling of the degradation reaction Effectiveness of Research (1) Natural clinoptillolite zeolite showed good catalytic performance for the degradation of single PE, PP, PS and their mixtures to liquid oils (2) The quality of the liquid products depended on the structure and acidity of the catalyst, and also on the degradation conditions (3) Natural halloysite and montmorillonite were also good catalysts for the degradation of plastics (4) Dynamic model fitted well the experimental data of the catalytic degradation (5) Mixed plastics showed interactions in the catalytic degradation
