The flow near the edge of fluid sheet is to be investigated quantitatively by using the front-tracking/vortex-in-cell calculation. Also, the droplet formation with liquid jet is to be studied by using front-tracking/finite-difference-method. The two modes, Rayleigh and end-pinching are the focus of the study. For the 1st year research, a two-dimensional numerical method for inviscid two-fluid flows with evolution of density interface is developed, and an initially stationary two-dimensional fluid sheet surrounded by another fluid is studied. The interface between two fluids is modeled as a vortex sheet, and the flow field with the evolution of interface is solved by using vortex-in-cell/front-tracking method. The interfacial waves and the edge receding are studied parametrically. For the 2nd year research, the breakup of a liquid jet, injected into another immiscible liquid, into drops is studied numerically. The Navier-Stokes equations for incompressible and Newtonian fluids are solved in axisymmetric cylindrical coordinates by a Front-Tracking/Finite Difference method. The simulated jet shape and length, as well as the drop size and shape agree well with experiments. The effect of the Weber, the Froude, and the Reynolds numbers, as well as the viscosity ratio are examined. The edge of the sheet is pulled back into the sheet due to surface tension and a blob is formed at the edge. This blob and fluid sheet are connected by a thin neck. In the inviscid limit, such process of the blob and neck formation is examined in detail and their kinematic characteristics are summarized with dimensionless parameters. The edge recedes at V = 1.06 $({\sigma}/{\rho}h)^{0.5}$ and the capillary wave propagating into the fluid sheet is to be considered for better understanding of the edge receding. The jet breakup is less dependent on the Froude and the Reynolds numbers, and the viscosity ratio does not affect the dynamics when the viscosity of external fluid is lower than that of the jet. For Re=160, capillary waves are observed when the Weber number is greater than 5. When the Weber number is high, a conventional capillary wave instability is the dominant mechanism for the breakup of the jet. In this case, the drop size is in relatively good agreement with predictions using linear stability theory. When the Weber number is low, end-pinching is the dominant mechanism for the jet breakup, and the size of the drops is larger than those predicted by linear stability theory. The regime where the drop size is determined by capillary wave instabilities, is very small and end-pinching is the most common mechanism, even when capillary waves are observed on the jet surface.
