In this study, our primary goal is to classify the electromyographic signals included the specific patterns related to hand motions in an arm, and is to develop the input device for a man-machine interface using the results of it It is true that the spatial limitation of a desk computer could be overcome with a wearable computer for handling some information. Still, we have to handle keyboard or mouse as an input device, and use the monitor as an output device. Therefore, the wearable computer or mobile computer demands a new man-machine interface to replace a mouse and keyboard as an input device, for example, that is speech recognition device, face recognition device and biological recognition device etc.. In this study, we are going to develop the man-machine interface based on biological signal. Most of the biological signal in the human body is carried in the form of electrical signal. Therefore, we can get the information of human body with the analysis of such signal, and use as directly input device. We use EMG signals obtained from multiple electrodes in an arm as a biological signal. Thus, our primary study is to classify the biological signals with specific patterns to replace mouse and keyboard, and to develop the hardware to implement a system. The study consists of three functional parts, which are parts for obtaining the biological signals from arm muscle, processing and recognizing specific patterns, and transmitting to mobile or computer the recognized signals. We expect that the results of this study is very effective in the mobile computer and wearable computer environment. The results of this study can be used to detect the motion intention of the user as an input device in the mobile and wearable computing environments.
