(Johnston과 O'Brien, 1980; Oilo, 1988).

Glass-infiltrated alumina core ceramics were prepared by process that is similar to a fabrication method for dental crowns and bridges. Six different borosilicate glasses containing MgO, Li$_2$O and ZrO$_2$ in the glass composition were prepared. To examine the wettability of glass to alumina, the contact angle and spreading area measurements were made on the alumnia plate at 1100℃ for 5 minutes. To evaluate the effect of composition change in glass on the strength and shade changes of glass-infiltrated alumina ceramics, the color was measured by the CIE L$^*$a$^*$b$^*$ color scale relative to standard source C and the biaxial flexure strength was measured using the ball-on-three-ball method at a crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/min. To optimize the alumina powder compacts, four commercial alumina powders and partially stabilized zirconia powders were used. Porous alumina compacts were prepared by slip casting and sintered at 1100℃ for 2 hours. Dense composites were made by infiltration of molten glass into partially sintered alumina at 1100℃ for 6 hours. Specimens were polished sequentially from #800 to #2000 diamond wheel, and the final surface finishing on the tensile side was received an additional polishing sequence through 0.3 $\mu$m diamond paste. Color changes were measured by the CIE L$^*$, a$^*$, b$^*$ color scale relative to standard source C. The biaxial flexure strength was measured using the ball-on-three-ball method at a crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/min. The results obtained were summarized as follows; 1. The color change of composites infiltrated with experimental glasses to In-Ceram Glass AL1 showed that L$^*$ values increased but a$^*$ and b$^*$ values decreased with addition of MgO, Li$_2$O and ZrO$_2$ in the glass composition. Maximum color difference of experimental glass-infiltrated alumina core ceramics was obtained in the Group B containing 2.4 mol% MgO in the glass composition. 2. The maximum biaxial flexure strength values of 474.1 MPa was obtained in the Group E containing 0.3 mol% Li$_2$O in the glass composition. 3. The observation of fracture surfaces indicated the microstructurally rough surface with a tendency of toughening by crack deflection and crack bridging. 4. Fracture toughness values of composites infiltrated with Glass A∼F were about 4.9 to 5.5 MPa?m$^1^/^2$and They were similar to composite infiltrated with In-Ceram Glass AL1 of 5.0 MPa?m$^1^/^2$. 5. The shear bond strength of groups blasted with 50 $\mu$m alumina and bonded with Variolink Ⅱ was higher than that of groups blasted with 50 $\mu$m glass beasd and bonded with Panavia F. 6. The biaxial flexure strength of alumina-glass composites increases as the increasing the particle size and maximum value of 418.6MPa was obtained at composite containing 60% of 5.2 $\mu$m alumina and 40% of 0.6 $\mu$m. 7. The maximum biaxial flexure strength value of 521.9 MPa of zirconia-reinforced alumina-glass composites was obtained at composite containing 70% of 1.8 $\mu$m alumina powder and each 15% of 0.2 $\mu$m and 0.1 $\mu$m partially stabilized zirconia powders.
