This project is designed to develop multifunctional matehals, such as high- energetic matehals, highly luminescent matehals, metal complex clathrates and highly electromagnetic metal complexes, for three years. The contents of this project can be classified into the fonowing 4 categories. 1. Studies on high- energetic matehals : For novel high- energetic and insensitive materials, rare earth metal and alkah metal complexes with 3- Nitro- 1,2,4-triazol- 5- one (NTO) , 2.6- dinitrophenolate (DNP) and DMP (2.6- dinitro- 4- methyl phenol) were synthesized. Crystal struCture and themochehacal properties of the complexes were investigated. In addition, thermodynamic and chemical- kinetic studies were performed on high- energetic matehals. 2. Studies on highly luminescent matehals : Rare earth complexes with polycarboxylates and $\beta$-diketones possessing multichealating and alltenna functions were synthesized, and their crystal struCtures and spectroscopic properties were investigated. In addition, optical and molecular- struCtural properties of Au (I) supra- molecule compfexes and polypyrrofes were also investiuated. 3. Studies on metal complex clathrates : Clathrates compounds were investiuated with , 7arious transition metals of CN hgand. C$d_3$$\(CN)_6$$\{(imH)}_2$ : $\cdot$$C_6$$H_{12}$ Cds (CN)$\{(imH)}_2$: $\cdot$$C_6$HSCI, [ $C_6$$H_{11}$NH고 [ Cu: (C$\beta$$\cdot$ Z$C_6$HSNHZ, and [ ($C_6$$H_11$,)$2_N$$H_2$ ZNH: [ Ni(C$N_4$」. Tl1e compounds were syntl1esized with simple metl1Od and struCturally charactehzed by the X-ray single crystal analysis for the framework of host and the position of guest molecules. 4. Studies on highly electromagnetic metal compfexes : Several metal cOITlplexes with tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) , tetrahalometallate, (- ) - sparteine and o- sparteine were synthesized. StruCtural tuning effects on chemical and physical properties of the metal compfexes were investigated in terms of X-ray crystal struCtures and electromagnetic properties. Prospective matehals, showing the charactehstic chemical and physical properties (insensitive high- energetics, luminescence, catalytic selectivity, energy conversioll, and electromagnetism) , have been developed for three years. Cooperative research system was estabhshed over four Labs performing this project. Up to this datq 25 research pelpers have been pubhshed in journals and 42 pelpers have been represellted in the various symposiums and workshops. Total 32 research assistants were involved in this project and in the near future they win play key roles in matehal industry. The multi- functional and high- energetic metal compounds developed in this project wlll be very useful matehals in both academic and industrial fields.
