1. The Yeoncheon Group in the Imjigang Belt has been reexamined in order to clearly establish stratigraphy and to interpret its tectonic meaning. Based on the lithological and sedimentological characteristics, the Yeoncheon Group of the area is divided into three formations, here referred to as the Misan, Daegwangri and Cheondeoksan formations in ascending order. The Misan Formation consists of meta-psammite and quartzite, with intercalation of thin layers of meta-polite, quartz biotite schist and calc-silicates. Amphibole schists occur frequently in the lower part of the formation. The Daegwangri Formation comprises coarse-grained biotite schist with small amount of quartz biotite schist and meta-psammite. The Cheondeoksan Formation is composed of meta-psammite, quartzite, phyllitic polite with small amount of phyllite and mica schist. The formation is also typified by well-developed tabular and parallel beds. According to the parallel alternation of tabular bedded psammite and thin bedded polite, and to the sedimentary structures, the Yeoncheon Group is in general considered to be marine turbidite and epipelagic deposits; turbidite in shallow continental shelf for the Misan Formation, relatively deep water deposit in continental shelf for the Daegwangri Formation, turbidite in shallow continental shelf and shallow water deposit in nearshore for the Cheondeoksan Formation. The contact relationship between the Yeoncheon Group and Precambrian Gyeonggi metamorphic complex is basically unconformity, but locally two groups are in contact with normal fault. The contact between the Yeoncheon Group and metamorphic complex is seemed to be only unconformity, not a tectonic boundary by continental collision. The Yeoncheon Group is presumed to be lithologically and sedimentologically correlated via the Taean Group in the southwestem part of the Gyeonggi massif.
2. Geological age of the Yeoncheon Group can be inferable from the SHRIMP U-Pb zircon ages as middle to late Devonian. We obtained SHRIMP U-Pb ages for zircons from three metapsammites of the Misan Formation and from foliated hornblende granite. The group of the youngest zircon from three metapsammites yielded the age of $396.7{\pm}6.1$ Ma (Middle Devonian). The dating for the foliated hornblende granite which intrudes into the Misan Formation gives its emplacement age at $342.2{\pm}8.6$Ma (early Carboniferous). The youngest age of detrital zircons and the emplacement age of the granite constrain that the protolith of the Misan Formation were deposited between the middle Devonian and the early carboniferous, indicating that the Yeoncheon Group is much younger than previously thought (Meso- to Neoproterozoic).
3. We carried out Sensitive high resolution ion microprobe (SHRIMP) dating of detrital zircons from low-grade metamorphic rocks of Dumujin Formation at Baeryeongdo and Sogeunri Formation of Seosan Group, and mica-schist of Gyeonggi Gneiss Complex at Tongjin area to constraint their sedimentation age and provenance. The age data reveals that (1) depositional age of the Dumujin Formation as post-1078 Ma and its dominant provenance is Mesoproterozoic, and (2) maximum sedimentation age of the Seosan Group and mica-schist of the Gyeonggi Gneiss Complex is 1.7 Ga or 1.8 Ga and their provenance is Paleoprotezoic and Late Archean. The zircon ages also imply that Gyeonngi massif would experienced Mesoprotrozoic igneous activities, so far unknown, and give new hints on distribution of Triassic continental collision in Gyeonngi Massif.
4. SHRIMP monazite U-Pb dating for a tourmaline-bearing leucratic granite gneiss from Teoychon area which occurs as leucosom in migmatitic biotite gneiss gives its formation age at $232.5\pm1.4$ Ma. It is much younger than previous thought (Paleoproterozoic) and imply that Triassic regional metamorphism possibly associated with continental collision between North- and South China Craton might extend to the central part of Gyeonggi Massif.
5. The geochemical compositions of the basement rocks of the Gyeonggi massif are in average characterized by K-rich granitic materials that has been created in the active volcanic margin tectonic settings. The K-rich granitic materials are typical of post-Archean continental crust. However, Nd isotopic study suggests that the majority of crustal materials were extracted during Late Archean time, which may be more primitive than present-day K-rich crustal composition of the Gyeonggi massif. This contrast may indicate that the present-day exposure of the Gyeonggi massif corresponds to once or more reworked crustal materials during the post-Archean time.
6. The Hongseong metamorphic complex, situated in western Gyeonggi massif, consists of garnet amphibolite, quartz gametite, marble, and hornblende gneiss, together with Paleoproterozoic basement gneisses. Tonalite and granodiorite are widespread and appear to be deformed significantly in the vicinity of the amphibolite-marble unit. Hornblende-plagioclase symplectites are ubiquitous around the gamet porphyroblast, suggesting a docornpressional P-T path. The peak metamorphic conditions dotermined using the garnet-hornblende-plagioclase -quartz (GHPQ) and garnet-clinopyroxene-plagioclase-quartz (GCPQ) geothermo -barometers are in the range of 10-14 kbar and 700-$800^{\circ}C$. Zircon grains from a deformed tonalite are free of metamorphic overgrowth and give a concordant U-Pb age of $801\pm13$ Ma. This result combined with the U-Pb age of ca. 820 Ma estimated from zircon grains of an undeformed tonalite confirms the Neoproterozoic igneous activity in the Gyeonggi Massif, On the other hand, the $^{40}Ar/^{39}Ar$ amphibole age from a tonalite sample indicates the Triassic cooling a9e of $231\pm6$ Ma. The result is consistent with previous
