As urban agriculture activities by non-professional farmer, 'city farmer' have been spreading, vegetable garden of rooftop is increasing rapidly. As urban agriculture activities by non-professional farmer, 'city farmer' have been spreading, vegetable garden of rooftop is increasing rapidly. Afforested rooftop builted at Gyeonggi-do ARES was contributed to drop 7℃ in ceiling surface temperature than before the construction. The eatable farming plant resources was added to prevalent scenery rooftop garden. We established guidelines on methods to make the agricultural activity area on the rooftop for vegetable gardener.
We collected 207species of plant resources from a lots of places regardless of season and use, tried them out rooftop garden and recommended 170 species of the number by investigation about growth characteristics for two years. It was classified with edible green grocery(vegetable 48species, fruits 10species and whole corps 10species) and visual elements(ornamental plants 41 species, herbs 22 species, sedum/grass 16 species and woody plant 23 species). We developed 4 planting type using garden products according to growing pattern, nutrient requirement, cultivation period, purpose of use of plant sources. It was as follows : planting bed made of wooden or brick, trellis of tunnel shape, the surface of a wall, and portable box with drainage device. The 4 planting type afford city farmer to built up suitable rooftop garden. City farmer which have various purpose on community garden, family garden, aroma-therapy, school farm, and so on can make use of the 4 planting type and 170 species plant resources.
