Purpose&contents
Two main purposes of this project are as follows: 1) development of hybrid magnetic materials with multi-functions and their characterization using various means and 2) studies on the synthesis of convergent materials based on porous magnetic materials and their coupled phenomena. We have performed 19 sub-projects to accomplish the goals.
Result
In order to achieve the goal of this project, we have performed 19 sub-projects. Among them, seven important subjects described below are more associated with the development of porous magnetic materials.
I. Synthesis of highly uniform superparamagnetic mesoporous spheres with submicron scale and their uptake into cells
II. Rhodium nanoparticles encapsulated within mesopores in a core/shell silica microsphere and their highly selective oxidation of anthracene
III. Development of copper nitride (Cu3N) nanoparticles supported on a superparamagnetic mesoporous microsphere for toxic-free click chemistry
IV. Dual Pd and CuFe2O4 nanoparticles encapsulated in a core/shell silica microsphere for selective hydrogenation of alkynes
V. Highly selective hydrogen generation from hydrazines catalyzed by rhodium nanoparticles supported on magnetic silica microspheres
VI. Isolation of solid hydrazine with the 1:1 adduct of hydrazine and carbon dioxide and its applications
VII. Controlled growth of mesoporous silica shell on silica microspheres and their applications for photonic crystals
Expected Contribution
We expect to have important impacts on at least four parts if we successfully accomplish this project. First, new separation techniques can be developed using the porous magnets, which might extend to other areas based on conventional magnets. Second, hybrid materials on the basis of the porous magnets can be utilized in environmental, bio, and energy technologies. For instance, recyclable catalysts will solve many environmental and energy problems. Third, techniques obtained from the development of the porous magnets as well as new convergent materials developed in this project create new technologies with tremendous impacts. Finally, solid hydrazine will give tremendous impacts on various areas such as rocket propellant, blowing agent, and so on. In addition, solid state grinding method developed will be extended to other organic and inorganic synthesis.
