This research alms to choose the best example of Korean forest area that is high in biodiversity, collect insect specimens using quantitative collection methods and analyze their biodiversity. First of all, Odaesan Mountain, Jirisan Mountain and Hallasan Mountain of Jejudo Island were chosen as they were expected to be most abundant in insects. Then, monthly investigation had been performed in those three areas from April to October using quantitative sampling methods such as Malaise trap, Flight intercept trap and Black light trap etc. As a result, a total of 7,682 insect specimens were collected. Malaise trap was used to obtain 4,169 insect specimens in Odaesan Mountain, Jirisan Mountain and Hallasan Mountain while 1,721 Coleoptera specimens were gained in Odaesan Mountain through Flight intercept trap and 1,792 Lepidoptera samples were gathered in Jirisan Mountain using Black light trap. Among them, 1,792 Lepidoptera specimens were stored at Mokpo National University and the rest (5,890samples) were kept in the National Institute of Biological Resources (NIBR). This research was successful in acquiring a number of insect specimens such as Ptilodactylidae (Coleoptera) that had not been reported in Korea. Samples that may be recorded as a new or unrecorded species later were also obtained, for example, Neophallodes sp., Morphosphaera coerulea, Mesochorus sp., Bracon sp., Acidiella diversa and the genus Psarochilosia. Furthermore, specimens of endemic species, rare species and samples valuable for climate change study were also collected in no small numbers. To sum up, specimens collected through this research are categorized into following groups: those of candidate new species; unrecorded species;endemic species; rare species which the NIBR did not hold and indicator species related to climate change. These specimens will enhance diversity of insect storage of the NIBR and be a basis of fostering experts of taxa III which local experts are scarce, leading to establishment of infrastructure for biodiversity. They will also be used as valuable preliminary data for joint research with foreign researchers to study taxa in which local experts are absent. The species described in this paper need to be more clearly verified in taxonomical point of view in the future. Therefore, distribution records or the analysis results of new and unrecorded species are not taxonomically valid herein.
