1) Assessment of Baekdudaegan Forest Biodiversity and Specimen Collection
(1) We found and identified 1,271 vascular plant taxa belonging to 509 genera and 125 families, which accounted for 26% of whole vascular plants (4,883, Korea National Arboretum, 2007) in Korea. We also made 21,000 specimen from various taxa including plants, wildlife, fungi and insects as well as soil monoliths. (2) Through surveys of wildlife fauna, 33 mammal species (6 orders and 14 families) were found and total 300 specimen were made. (3) In higher fungi surveys, 4004 specimen were collected. Total 810 species (243 genera, 83 families, 26 orders, 9 classes, 3 phylums, and 2 kingdoms) were identified from 3,330 samples of them and their biological information was obtained. (4) Total 874 insect species (72 family, 14 orders) were identified and 7,200 specimen were made. (5) Total 55 pictures of soil profiles were taken and used for making the map book of soil profile, and then total 30 soil monoliths were built. (6) Total 24 representative forest types (Quercus mongolica forest type, Pinus densiflora forest type, Mesophytic forest type, etc.) of the Mountains were recognized from multivariate analysis of 111 forest communities by the vegetation data from point sampling method.
2) Investigation and Conservation of Indicator Plants on Climate Change
Subalpine plants were dominant but not growed seedlings in subalpine areas, and showed a tendency to decrease tree ring widths from about 1980s in alpine species. It didn’t show the relation between micro climatic data and phenology data in Baekdudaegan area. But it had a tendency to increase slightly in temperature data of a part of areas in Baekdudaegan areas. It showed a tendency to delay the leaf colored and the leaf fallen periods in some deciduous trees(Prunus sargentii , Quercus mongolica, Quercus serrata) growing in Baekdudaegan areas. Therefore, It needs to investigate the phenological phase and microclimatic data during long period to estimate growth changes of trees growing in Baekdudaegan area by climate change.
3) Construction of Forest Bioresources Information Databank and Traditional Knowledge Survey of Forest Bioresources
GIS Database was created by utilizing each GPS coordinate of forest biological species and soil survey materials. The Database has information on 30,561 species in total. In detail, there are 122 families, 20,863 objects of 1,115 species in plants; 14 families, 873 objects of 35 species in animals; 93 families, 5,366 objects of 495 species in insects; 83 families, 3,330 objects of 810 species in fungus and; 129 objects in soil. In addition, distribution maps on forest biological species and soil in Baekdudaegan were made in 1:5,000 scale by utilizing database on forest biological species and soil survey. HyangyakJipseongbang and Donguibogam Herbal medicine books of the Joseon Dynasty for Korea compared with China's dictionary Chinese medicine the wish to discover the bibliography traditional knowledge of Korea. This study was carried out 706 sheets of 153 residents at 34 villages from 20 Counties (namely, Gun) and Cities (namely, Si) in 7 Provinces (namely, Do). Surveyed plants were 214 species(excluded Quercus spp. which were not exactly species name) from 77 families which included 4 species of 3 families of pteridophyte; 9 species of 4 families of gymnosperm; 23 species of 6 families of monocotyledon (angiosperm); and 178 species of 64 families of dicotyledon.
4) Development of CBD/ABS Action Plans on Indigenous Forest Bioresources
By analysing local and overseas trends to deal with CBD/ABS, implications that can be adopted by key subjects of CBD were drew. This study conceived a link strategy of Baekdudaegan such as restoration of forest ecosystem and vitalization of local economy through species habitat management, establishment of process to promote the forest ecosystem of Baekdudaegan and local and overseas network around Baekdudaegan arboretum. In addition, to deal with Nagoya Protocol, this study performed the success case analysisand drew implications. As a result, 10 core sectors and 42 detailed action plans of CBD/ABS were drew, and reviewed for effects of relevant laws and regulations. Thus, this study represents the CBD/ABS countermeasure that has adopted ABS procedure and 42 detailed action plans of 10 core sectors, and also drew the plan for project site selection. An alternate model for CBD/ABS was applied to the actual target site, and 11 species such as Saussurea macrolepis (Nakai) Kitam., Asperula lasiantha NakaiRubiaceae, Cirsium setidens NAKAI were drew. The study represents plans for Biodiversity Village development and its detailed practical businesses.
