PFS = 0.030X1+0.015X2+0.051X3-0.058X4+0.072X5-1.79
X1 Hand-grip strength(kg), X2 One-leg balance(s), X3 Functional reach(cm), X4 Walking around two cones(s), X5 Moving beans (n).

The purposes of this study are (1) to compare functional capacity, physical function, physical activity, life style, health status, and quality of life between Korean and Japanese older adults, (2) to clarify the common risk factors of certification of long-term care among Japan and Korea, and (3) to develop a screening tool for detecting Japanese and Korean people having risk of certification of long-term care.
The participants were recruited through local advertisements and flyers.
A total of 1486 (869 Korean and 617 Japanese) participants were included in this analysis. We classified 289 Japanese in 1999 to 2000 (a), 431 Korean in 1999 to 2000 (b), 328 Japanese in 2012 to 2013 (c), and 438 Korean in 2012 to 2013 (d). Significant differences were observed among the 4 groups on all variables. The results of the odds ratios for prevalence nations according to physical function tests. The following 5 items were selected to construct the physical function test (hand-grip strength, one-leg balance, functional reach, walking around two cones, and moving beans), with adjusted for age, sex, and BMI.
The PFS equation is as follows:
PFS = 0.030X1+0.015X2+0.051X3-0.058X4+0.072X5-1.79
where X1 Hand-grip strength (kg), X2 One-leg balance (s), X3 Functional reach (cm), X4 Walking around two cones (s), X5 Moving beans (n).
The AUC values and 95% CI of each KCL and ML for identifying individual PFS (data in Korea and Japan of the 2012-2013). The cut-off values of KCL were -0.091 in the overall, -0.902 in Korean, and, -0.087 in Japanese and cut-off values of ML were -0.064 in the overall, -0.974 in Korean, and 0.262 in Japanese. The ROC curves in determining a high risk of frailty (KCL and ML) for the PFS was significantly.
We have significant experience comparing health and fitness status between older Korean and Japanese males and females. As expected, at the beginning of this research project, statistically significant differences were observed in many health and fitness items between Koreans and Japanese. The differences may correspond to the existing difference in life expectancy between Koreans and Japanese.
