The metabolic profile test(MPT) was first established as a toll for assessing metabolic status and helping in the diagnosis of metabolic disorders in dairy herds. Subsequently many researchers have applied MPT to improve feeding management. On the other hand, in conjunction with animal and facility evaluation, body condition scoring and ration evaluation, MPT is an extremely useful tool for nutritional evaluation in dairy herds.
MPT for early stage detection and prevention of production disease, reflects nutritional, health and physiological state. It is necessary to develop proper MPT on domestic environment since it is influenced by the various factors like the season, feed, weather, lactation period and so on. This study was for setting up the reference range of metabolic profile test of domestic dairy cow. After collecting blood samples for 5 each lactation period, those were analyzed in lab and in field with simple kit for glucose and ketone.
The serum chemistry items were albumin (ALB), gamma globulin (GLOB), blood urea nitrogen (BUN), total protein(T-pro), glucose(GLU), total cholesterol(T-CHO), nonesterified fatty acid(NEFA), body condition score(BCS), aspartate aminotransferase(AST), Gamma glutamic transferase(GGT), calcium(Ca), phosphorus(P), magnesium(Mg) and beta-hydroxybutyrate(BHBA). MPT result(reference range) made wave form according the lactation periods. A simple kit for glucose and ketone was very useful to diagnose metabolic diseases and state, and had a close correlation with the lab data. Therefore the new reference range and simple kit will be useful tool for farm management and control metabolic disease. The objective of this study was revenue model for the reduction of metabolic disorder to construct strong dairy farms
The farms located in Cheonan and Gochang were selected, and their feeds, nutrition management and disease were investigated to develop the reduction technology for metabolic disorder on dairy cows. Generally, NEFA was higher on the most of farms. The concern of metabolic disorder was increased after being delivered, and glucose levels were slightly lower in some dairy cows. It might be occurred the reduction of dry matter intake and the lack of energy. Cholesterol was high compared to the appropriate level by oversupply of maintenance feed and energy. BUN was also higher than the appropriate level (12-18 mg/dl). These farms were needed to control the dietary protein level. The optimal glucose level was kept in the second year (2013), NEFA was decreased by applying the result of utilizing these metabolic determination test. BUN was still high level in 2013, but it was kept the optimal level by controling the concentrates in 2014. In addition, AST was high over 40-50% of farms, and there was the problem of bovine liver function. They were improved in 2014. Ca level was a low in 25% of farms, and BHBA (β-hydroxybutyric acid) was high. It might be the lipid metabolic disorder. Since then, ketosis and milk fever were reduced by controling the Ca concentration, and BUN was stabilized in 2014. Lastly, dairy cows died out with a lack of dry period dairy management, and the feed intake was decreased by changing TMR ratio frequently. The feeding management will be needed to improve in the future. MPT and MPT analysis program is a useful consulting tool for helping farmers recognize the importance of good management.
