Ⅱ. Objectives and Necessities of Research
▶ OLED materials are rising the problems as less list of materials, non-stable and life expectancy. US and Japan have most patent relating to OLEDs. Therefore, Korea need the core basic technology to develop new materials avoided patent dispute between the nation.
▶ This research is to develop OLED materials extracted from marine living organisms
▶ To use in OLED, the new OLED materials from marine living organisms characterized, and those materials studied the fabrication process and condition optimization related OELD devices.
Ⅲ. Contents and Extents of Research
▶ In literature reviews, few studies have reported on “natural” OLED materials such as chlorophyll, chitosan, cytochrome, myoglobin, protein and DNA. Therefore, the possibility of natural substances for diversity and commercialization have been identified
▶ In this study, natural substances extracted from marine organisms conducted experiments for the light emitting efficacy. Experimental species were 28 macroalgae, 14 microalgae and 64 marine bacteria.
▶ To investigate OLED candidates, the extractions of marine species were evaluated light emission by photoluminescence(PL) effects, and gas chromatography mass spectrometer(GC-MS) were characterized.
▶ The candidates were fabricated for light emitting, and analyzed an electroluminescence(EL) and PL. Especially, adenine derivatives were shown strong effects.
▶ For optimizing the OLED material, location, evaporation rate and pretreatment of adenine compounds were studied. In the result, optimum conditions were found adenine compounds to fabricate the device. The device was shown maximum efficacy when it introduce UV radiation for 30minutes and evaporation rate of 1.0Å/s and hole barrier layer.
Ⅳ. Research Performance
Ⅴ. Application of results
▶ Marine organisms can be useful to high value-added industry of OLED materials, and the use of such biomolecule from non-useful organisms support ecofriendly, renewable, reduction of cost and non-pollution
▶ Basic core technology on OLED materials from marine organisms not only introduce to display industry but also light industry, and it is expected to expand the bio materials industry.
▶ This methodology and result of OLED materials from marine organisms can be applicable to other research and industries
▶ OLED materials from marine organisms can use alternatives of existing materials, and Korea OLED industry can reduce the royalty of the existing materials against other countries
▶ OLED materials from marine organisms have been secured which can be use to other industries such as flexible light industry, biomedical, mass culture and health food.
