민간요법 발굴·보존 및 DB구축을 통한 지식 자원화는 한국 전통 민간요법 지역현황 자료 수집을 통한 전국 맵 구축, 민간요법의 체계적인 발굴 수집과 DB구축, PCT 최소문헌 등록을 통한 지식 자원화를 목표로 함.
본 연구단계에서는 강원ㆍ경기ㆍ충북ㆍ경남ㆍ경북, 전남, 전북, 제주 지역의 민간요법에 대해 문헌과, 설문조사를 통한 지역현황 전국 맵 구축을 실시하였음. 관찬자료 중심의 지역현황은 한말 일제강점기부터 광복 이후 관학을 중심으로 조사 발간한 민간요법 관찬자료와 지역중심의 시군지 자료 등을 체계적으로 수집 번역하여 해당지

본 연구단계에서는 강원ㆍ경기ㆍ충북ㆍ경남ㆍ경북, 전남, 전북, 제주 지역의 민간요법에 대해 문헌과, 설문조사를 통한 지역현황 전국 맵 구축을 실시하였음. 관찬자료 중심의 지역현황은 한말 일제강점기부터 광복 이후 관학을 중심으로 조사 발간한 민간요법 관찬자료와 지역중심의 시군지 자료 등을 체계적으로 수집 번역하여 해당지역의 인문 자연과학적인 배경을 포함한 민간요법을 목록화 하였음. 설문조사 중심의 지역현황은 중부 및 영남지역의 이장과 보건진료소 간호사를 대상으로 전화설문조사를 실시하여 민간요법의 전통 지식 전승자 및 보유자의 지역분포 현황을 조사하였고 민간요법 보유자명단을 확보하였음.
민간요법의 발굴조사는 강원ㆍ경기ㆍ충북ㆍ경남ㆍ경북, 전남, 전북, 제주지역을 현장 조사하였음. 다학제간 전문가 자문회의와 각 학술연구용역팀과의 공동워크샵을 개최하여 민간요법 발굴조사 표준작업지침을 개발하고 이에 따라 현장 조사를 실시함. 요법의 심층 보존이 필요한 경우 심층조사를 실시하여 영상채록 및 시료를 확보하였음. 특히 비약물 요법의 경우 시연을 통한 영상 채록을 통해 동영상 보존을 실시하였고 필요한 경우 모션 캡쳐를 통해 보다 원형을 잘 보존할 수 있도록 하였음. 접골요법의 경우구술생애사 및 시연영상과 설명을 포함한 e-book제작을 통해 보존하였으며 자가 건강관리 목적의 심신수련법의 경우 건강관리를 위한 기본 수련법을 중심으로 동영상 및 모션캡쳐 자료로 보존하였음.민간요법 체험사례 탐구를 위해 희귀난치성 신경 근육계 환자를 대상으로 질적 연구와 민간요법 실태설문 조사를 실시하였음.
민간요법 발굴보존 자료의 구성 요소를 분석하여 민간요법의 정보자원항목 정의 및 정보자원분류 SOP 개발하였고, 본 SOP에 따라 용어 정제 및 색인화 작업을 실시하였음. 국내외 민간요법 관련 데이터베이스를 벤치마킹하고 세계지식재산권기구에서 제안하는 전통지식 DB의 기본요건을 조사 참고하여 민간요법 통합 데이터베이스를 구축하고 검색 시스템을 개발하였음. 이를 통해 한국 전통치료지식으로서의 민간요법 정보자원을 활용한 신의료기술 개발의 활용기반을 마련하고, 소멸되어가는 한국의 전통지식을 보존함

A. Draw up a list through local remedies survey from Yeongnam and central region, government compliance data.
○ A single-medical book collection and translation of the late period of the Chseon Dynasty to secure traditional single-medicine therapy
- Secure a total 948 single-medicine therapy and analysis of the private medical treatment and “Medical experience a book(經驗方)”, Through the collection and translation of “Dan-bang-shinpyon(單方新編)” which is widely circulated as a popularly simple medical book.
○ Secure the folk Remedies through the collection and translation of folk Remedies which lists in the Government Compilation Sources of Japanese Colonial period.
- Secured a total of 5,479 periodicals on Korean medicine, newspapers, the main magazine, Regional Folk Magazine, folk remedy documents and Folk medical literature which is researched by Government General of Chosun and Each local authority.

2. Establishment of regional current status data through the survey A. Development of folk remedies questionnaire
- We developed telephone survey questionnaires and the draft questionnaires to grasp the holder or successor of folk remedies having knowledge in traditional folk remedies. The draft questionnaire modified by seeking out expert advice and a small telephone survey against the heads of village (about 100) in the study area. Finally questionnaire was determined items such as whether existence of the folk remedies holder and successor, brief description of therapy (indication, materials and methods), and whether the information providers have introduced it or not
B. Current status survey of folk remedies in Korean
○ Survey sample secure and protocol development
- To investigate the holder or successor of folk remedies, we requested information (name, village, telephone number. We collected 27,338 heads of village, eldery leaders, women leaders and community health center nurses, and passed through IRB with developed protocol.
○ Survey of folk remedies in Central and Yeongnam regions (Gangwon,Gyeonggi, Chungbuk. Gyeongnam and Gyeongbuk)
- We carried out the survey 11,772 heads of village and 842 community health center nurses and 7,230 (57.3%) respondents provided verbal consent. Among the 7,230 respondents, the valid information in the questionnaire respondents was 1,278 people(17.7%). 3,191 of folk remedies holders and successor have information about folk remedies.
○ Survey of folk remedies in Jeju and Honam regions (Jeonnam and Jeonbuk)
- We carried out the survey 10,771 heads of village, eldery leaders, women leaders and community health center nurses and 5,788(53.7%) respondents provided verbal consent. Among the 5,788 respondents, the valid information in the questionnaire respondents was 2,410 people (41.6%). 2,410 of folk remedies holders and successor have information about folk remedies.
○ Survey of folk remedies in Chungnam
- We carried out the survey 3,953 heads of village, eldery leaders, women leaders and community health center nurses and 2,250(56.9%) respondents provided verbal consent. Among the 2,250 respondents, the valid information in the questionnaire respondents was 460 people (20.4%). 2,121 of folk remedies holders and successor have information about folk remedies.
Chapter 2. Excavation and preservation of Traditional folk remedies
1. A single-medicine therapy that was at the center of preservation of traditional folk remedies
A. Research of traditional folk remedies from Gyeonggi · Chungbuk Province
○ Research of traditional folk remedies from Gyeonggi, south-westen Province
- The investigation and preservation of folk Knowledge for humanisticㆍCharacteristic of natural environmental and prior research of Island and national park sample questionnaire, older elderly, a telephone survey including information providers selected by the local and conducting research. Focusing on qualitative research methodology for the use of drugs and nonpharmacological therapy about semi-structured interview for the collection as a traditional medical knowledge
- The 12 areas in the Southwestern Gyeonggi Province region(Goyang,Gwangmyeong, Gwangju, Gimpo, Bucheon, Seongnam, Siheung, Ansan, Anseong, Paju, Hwaseong) 58 villages 167 people in the towns with traditional medicinal knowledge holders to secured a total 1,366 folk remedies.
○ The Northeastern Gyeonggi Province region and Chungcheong Province researchers cooperated with academic research services for this study.
- The Northeastern Gyeonggi Province region (Namyangju,Yangpyeong-gun,Gapyeong-gun,Yangju,Pocheon,Uijeongbu,Yeoncheo n-gun) informant totaled 96 people from 38 villages traditional medicinal knowledge holders and secured total of 1,136 folk remedies (Kunkuk University)
- 12 islands of the West Sea (Baengnyeong-do Island, Daecheong-do Island, Yeonpyeong-do Island, Ganghwa-do Island, Gyodong-do Island, Seongmo-do Island, Jumun-do Island,Boreum-do Island, Yeongheung-do Island, Sin-do Island, Deokjeok-do Island, Jawol-do Island) 75 informants from 34 villages had traditional medicinal knowledge holders and secured a total of 1,798 folk remedies. B. Research of traditional folk remedies from Gyeongsang · Gangwon Province
○ Within the 18 cities and districts of Gangwon-do Province a total of 1,784 folk remedies folk remedies form 46 villages and 104 people were found, (The Academy of Korean Studies)
- The research divides the 18 cities and districts within Gangwon-do Province into the northern, central-southern and eastern areas and investigates the folk remedies being transmitted through field research.

C. Research of traditional folk remedies from Jeonnam · Jeonbuk Province · Jeju Island
○ Inland regions in Jeonnam, 33 villages, 96 informants, and 2,129 home remedies about 12 cities, counties, were surveyed, discovered, and arranged home remedies. (Chonnam National University)
- Four research teams will investigate 12 cities and counties of the inland regions in Jeonnam including Gwangju by dividing them into 3 areas of Yeongsangang River area, Seomjingang River area, and Tamjingang River area.

B. Investigation and preservation of SOP in a single-medicine therapy
- Progress the advisory conference and review in writing for the systematic and standardized investigation research with school system researcher (FolkloreㆍHistoryㆍKorea literatureㆍAnthropologㆍCultural informaticsㆍSystematic botanyㆍKorean institute of MedicineㆍThe National Folklore MuseumㆍThe Korean Intellectual Property Office) for the supplement correction of SOP.
- We share this SOP which is amended by the school system expert through the joint work shop with Korean institute of Medicine and each excavation spatial interdisciplinary team(Kunkuk and Anyang University). We will correct the additional problems in SOP V. 2. 10 after apply this amended SOP to actual business affairs.
- Operation standards for research is composed by research summary, folk remedy, study methodology, data processing, an annexed paper and it is designed by study methodology in accordance with the qualifications of traditional knowledge. Need to manualize the method of the recording and transcription of audio files, such as the recording paper formatting-related interview process, the serial number of photo and video files, the giving way to preserve specimens and samples collected for documents. In the case of folk remedies, the research you also need to record the research methods of the Selection Criteria area and information providers, step-by-step set the scale of the investigation, and investigation procedures.
- We collected items such as patients, adverse events(AEs) and administration information through a review of the AEs reporting forms of existing medicine, Korean medicine and folk remedies. We also extracted the characteristics of folk medicine materials through the 2011 and 2012 excavation of folk remedies. We then asked two drug safety experts (MD and TKMD) and one KIDS senior researcher to confirm the content validity. Finally, we developed a reporting form for AEs related to folk medicine for the expert.
C. In-depth research target and list of picture records
- The Folk Remedies through in-depth research investigations to increase density and utility value by pictures, the conservation and protection of traditional medicinal knowledge such as secure intellectual property rights. Academic research projects conducted by a joint investigation team and holders of traditional medicinal knowledge was public relations, in-depth research taking advantage of consent for the collection of personally secured information
- We preserve this information through interviews and video production for the processing methods of sampling and drinks including information providers and researchers in the whole process of conservation based on strategic conference and Interdisciplinary research between researchers in-depth information.
- Belong to 3 West Sea Island (Ganghwa-do Island, Gyodong-do Island, Seongmo-do Island), 1 area in the Southwest (Daebu-do Island) and 1 area in the Northeast (Namyangju) Gyeonggi Province recording a total of 21 pictures and samples collected from 8 villages.
2. Excavation and preservation of medical folk techniques and treatments
A. ○ Preservation of each osteopathic technique by disease
- Preservation of each osteopathic technique about total 36 cases of osteopathic technique which are frequently applied to specific diseases (9 cases of abarticulation, 16 cases of fractures, 9 cases of sprains, 2 other cases). Video records for preservation of techniques consist of an explanation and demonstration of the bonesetter. Video records are arranged in context according to origin, diagnosis, diaplasis and pexis. The results were published in an E-book (In-depth report about Korean osteopathic techniques).
○ Mind and body training for self-health care
- Additionally, in the listed mind and body training, a survey of groups for medical folk techniques (2012) and the development of a groundbreaking research report for qigong (2009) are listed. About Taegyeok and Taekgyeon selected as study subject of 2014, collected motion data and video records, arranged the effectiveness related to each action.
- In Taegyeok, the 59 techniques including Jungseongkongji, inwhajungtong, and busangmanjueng, are preserved by 1 expert. In Taekgyeon, 174 representative techniques, honjaickiki, majumegigi, bonttabegi and basic motion, are preserved by 4 experts.
- About Sunmudo, Kichun and Kouksundo selected as study subject of 2015, collated motion data using gyro sensors or optical camera with video record. The general information (origin, characteristics of theory and movement, reference literatures such as academic research result, books, old literature and etc.) of each medical folk technique was collected by expert interview.
B. Revision of the Standard Operating Procedures to preserve of medical folk techniques and treatments
- In SOP, improvement of main investigation parts in detail.
- Define the terminology of ‘folk - non drug’ as a folk technique and treatment. Also, common preparations of before and after main investigations are revised and in video recording parts, additional documentation preparation of unexpected subjects and extra actors should be made available. In case of motion capture parts, multi-camcorder recording situations are revised. In addition, after a main investigation, organized and analyzed the resources are added for DB development. Also, the procedure to develop Information Resource applied character on motion capture data are added.
C. Alternative treatments for obsessive-compulsive disorder: Two case reports featuring Korean medical modalities
- Within 3 to 4 months of treatment, both patients reported relief of symptoms. When treatment was terminated, scores according to the Dimensional Obsessive-Compulsive Scale-Korean version(DOCS-K) were 16 for the male patient and 9 for the female patient.
D. Study on the experience of folk remedy

2. Establishment of Folk Remedy DB
A. Design and Establishment of Folk Remedy Integrated DB
○ Benchmarking of Home and Foreign Folk Remedy DB
-A total of 18 DB related to domestic and foreign folk remedies were selected and benchmarked so as to identify prerequisite conditions for establishment of folk remedy integrated DB. As the analysis elements of benchmarking, plant index (P), description (D), image (I), source reference (S), medical use(M), recipe or dosage (R), geographic information (G), and adverse effect or caution (A) were chosen.
-As a result of the analysis, the analysis element which showed the highest satisfaction was plant index (89%), followed by source reference (74%), description (68%), image (58%), medical use (53%), geographic information (42%), adverse effect or caution (37%), and recipe or dosage (32%). Each DB met four analysis elements on average. It was found that Korean Traditional Knowledge Portal and CMKB of Australia met 7 out of 8 analysis elements, which is the highest number. In addition, criteria for application were prepared so that the traditional knowledge prerequisite conditions of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) were met for defensive protection of intellectual property right for folk remedy DB
