3. Research Results
A. Core Technologies in Campus EMS and Smart Grid Communication Infrastructure
i. Solar Power Prediction Based on Satellite Images and Support Vector Machine
■ Prediction of the amount of clouds
√ Table 1 summarizes the prediction results for the amount of clouds with a prediction horizon of 60 minutes. The proposed SVM based prediction model for the amount of clouds outperforms the persistence model, a non-linear auto regressive (NAR) model, and an artificial neural network (ANN) model. The proposed prediction model yields the RMSE, MRE, and R2 values of 10.8661, 9.9677, and 0.9104, respectively.
√ As shown in Fig. 6, even though some prediction errors occur, the prediction results of the proposed model generally agree with the measured values. The more the scatter plot converges to the red line, the better the prediction model performs. It indicates that a larger amount of clouds (near 100) and a smaller amount of clouds (near 0) are very well predicted, while it is rather hard to predict the medium amount of clouds.
■ Prediction of the irradiance
√ Table 2 summarizes the prediction results for the irradiance with prediction horizon of 60 minutes. The proposed SVM-based prediction model yields the best performance among the prediction models in terms of RMSE, MRE, and R2 values. The RMSE, MRE, and R2 values are obtained as 44.1390, 7.7329, and 0.9420, respectively.
√ As shown in Fig. 7, even though some prediction errors occur, the prediction results of the proposed model generally agree with the measured values, and thus, the scatter plot well converges to the red line, which represents the high prediction accuracy of the proposed SVM-based prediction model for future irradiance.
ii. Hourly Solar Irradiance Prediction Based on Support Vector Machine for a Large-scale Photovoltaic System
■ Prediction Results for Solar Irradiance
√ Table 3 summarizes the numerical results of the average MRE, average RMSE, and R2 of each prediction scheme with one-hour prediction horizon. The numerical results show that the RMSE of sunny, partially cloudy, and cloudy or rainy weather clusters is 40.64 [W/m2], 60.59 [W/m2], and 53.50 [W/m2] for the proposed SVM regression, which yield a better accuracy than the NAR scheme (111.41 [W/m2]) and the ANN (71.41 [W/m2]) scheme. Furthermore, the proposed scheme outperforms the NAR and ANN schemes in terms of MRE. The MRE of the three weather types: sunny, partially cloudy, and cloudy or rainy days is 2.89 %, 4.40 %, and 3.94 %, respectively. The proposed scheme yields a better accuracy than the conventional prediction schemes through the SVM Regression scheme with the weather type based data clustering.
iii. Performance-based Settlement of Frequency Regulation for Electric Vehicle Aggregators
■ The current settlement for frequency regulation market is to provide EV aggregators with higher benefits when they make a larger contracted capacity than the realized power capacity.
■ The proposed settlement utilizing a parameter k is to provide EV aggregators with lower benefits when they make a larger contracted capacity than the realized power capacity.
iv. An Enhanced Random Access Scheme with Spatial Group Based Reusable Preamble Allocation in Cellular M2M Networks
■ Due to the reusable preambles, the collision probability and the average access delay of the proposed ERA-SGRPA scheme are significantly decreased
■ The proposed ERA-SGRPA scheme and the conventional RA scheme yield the collision probabilities of 1.4% and 15%, respectively, when the number of machine nodes is set to 30,000 and the packet arrival rate is set to 1/300 (sec-1).
■ If we set the target collision probability as 1% and 3%, the conventional RA scheme can accommodate approximately 2,200 and 6,600 machine nodes, respectively. On the other hand, the ERASGRPA scheme can accommodate approximately 18,300 and 54,200 machine nodes, respectively.
B. Big Data Analysis Based on Energy Cloud in Campus Environment
i. A prediction algorithm on the consumption of each device decomposed from total energy consumption.
■ With consistent sampling sense, we extracted the weight which gives minimal error.
■ In self-evaluation, our block exponential smoothing method is superior to SAS prediction in terms of error, by 15%.
ii. Matrix algebraic analysis for energy trading via double auction
■ Computational cost O((L-1)(M+L)) with an uncertain number of iterations is reduced be only 3 matrix-vector multiplication without any iterations. Additionally, the stable range of parameter omega which gives the existence condition is exactly proven
■ Published in ISGC2015: “Strategic Gaming Analysis for Energy Trading in the Smart Grid : Matrix Algebraic Approach“
iii. A contribution-based Energy Trading Mechanism in Micro-Grids
■ We proposed a trading mechanism in energy sharing platform first in the world
■ Even though there are foolish consumers which do not take the given NE solution, any consumer who takes the NE solution will not lose out on its utility.
■ Furthermore, implementation procedure and convergence time are discussed for practical implementation.
