신화형 화색의 장미 품종을 육성하기 위하여 매년 전해년도 육성 품종을 방사선 처리를 하였으며, 13계통을 육성하였다. 균일성 및 안정성을 확인한 후 ‘글로리하트’ 품종에서 유기된 1계통을 ‘글로리 웨딩’으로 명명하여 출원하였다.
저온생육형 장미 품종육성을 위하여 매년 5월에 교배를 실시하였으며, 전년도 교배조합의 실생양성 및 선발하였다. 1, 2, 3차 특성 검정으로 생육 및 개화특성 및 수량, 품질, 저온생육특성,농가반응, 시장성 등을 조사하였고, 동계 최저 난방온도를 15±1 ℃ 로 설정하여 저온에서도 생육이 잘 되는 계통을 선발하였다. 그결과, ‘미씽유(2011)’ 등 10품종을 종자원에 출원하였다.
국내·외에서 수집된 다양한 장미 유전자원을 활용하여 장미 재배시 문제가 되는 수량성 품종을 육성하기 위하여 수행되었다. 수량성 품종을 육성하기 위해서는 다수성 유전자원을 테스트하여 40여 품종을 생육 조사후 ‘오렌지쥬스’ × ‘레드킹’ 등 200조합을 5년간 교배하였다. 결실된 종자는 10월 중순에 채취하여 종자를 선별하였고, 수분을 함유한 모래에 넣어 1℃ 저온에 휴면처리 하였다. 2개월간 층적 처리한 종자는 질석과 펄라이트가 혼합 된 배지에 파종하였고 발아된 종자는 직경 9cm의 이색포트에 이식하여 예비 선발하였다. 선발된 개체는 암면에 삽목하여 코코넛배지 위에 올려 화란식 양액으로 재배하였고 1~3차 특성검정을 통해 생육 및 개화특성, 수량, 품질의 절화특성과 개화특성, 시장성을 파악 'Pink mam', 'Orange queuefixes','Pinkloti', 'Peelhart', 'Silky', 'Selina', 'Redshine', 등을 육성 개발하였다.
방향성 장미 신품종 육성을 위하여 ‘오리온 × 코만도스’ 등 교배조합을 매년 5월 교배하였다. 5년간 총 22,070화를 교배하였으며, 결실과 수는 8,265과이고 결실율은 737.4%이다. 우량계통 증식 및 선발을 위해 전년도 결실 한 실생 개체를 대상으로 화색, 화형, 절화장, 향기, 가시 등의 조사를 실시하였으며, 향기는 달관조사로 이루어져 1(없거나 매우약함), 3(약함), 5(중간), 7(강함), 9(매우강함)로 나타내었다. 이들 중 유망계통은 증식하여 1, 2, 3차 특성검정을 실시하였으며, E-NOSE mobile을 통해 기계적으로 향 강도를 측정하였다. 그 결과, 5년간 ‘필라(2011)’ 등 방향성 장미 10품종을 출원 및 등록하였다.
동계 저광도 조건에서의 절화품질 및 생육이 우수한 장미 품종을 육성하기 위하여 2011년부터 2015년까지 5년간 수행하였다. 신품종 육성을 위하여 교배양친은 화색, 화형, 저광도 생육형 및 무측지성 등의 우수한 형질을 가진 품종을 사용하여 인공교배는 1,208조합 34,323화를 실시하여 744조합 7,593화가 결실하여 결실율이 21.8%였다. 우수계통선발은 실생개체 230계통을 1차 선발하고 본포에 정식하여 120계통을 2차 선발한 후, 생육특성 및 생산력검정을 통해 30계통을 3차 선발하였다. 3차 선발한 30계통에 대하여 실증재배시험 및 육성계통 평가회를 실시하고 농작물 직무육성 심의회를 통과하여 러블리하트, 핑크샤이 등 10품종을 육성하여 국립종자관리원에 품종보호 출원하였다.
유럽 수출용 대형 장미 품종육성을 위하여 2011년부터 5년간 매년 10 ∼ 20조합의 교배조합을 작성하여 교배하였다. 다년간의 특성검정과 시장성 검사를 통해 ‘옐로우문’ 등 장미 6품종을 출원하였다. 또한 매년 15품종의 신품종을 수집하여 절화장, 화색, 화형, 화폭, 화고 등 의 특성을 조사하고 모본으로 활용하였다.
수출용 중소형 장미 품종 개발로 소비자 및 재배자의 요구에 맞는 장미 품종육성을 위해 교배조합을 작성하고, 인공교배를 실시하였다. 그 결과, ‘뉴캔디’, ‘스텔라’, ‘리틀엔젤’, ‘슈가핑크’, ‘아벨’, ‘오렌지조이’, ‘썬스타’ 7품종을 개발하였다. 이 중 ‘스텔라’, ‘버블핑크’ 는 3 농가에 6만주 보급하여 일본으로 시범 수출되었다.

3. Mutant breeding is need to get the difficult characteristics to be introduced by cross breeding, or to make different color or shape family varieties. For mutant breeding, pink spray cultivar ‘Glory Heart’, developed at National Institute of Horticultural and Herbal Science (NHHS) in 2009, was generated by radiation cobalt ray at Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute in spring 2010. After cobalt-irradiation during 24 hour, bud mutation was selected from the pot roses in winter 2010. The mutation, ‘10RM-10’, was propagated vegetatively and grown for three years under natural conditions in a glass greenhouse in NHHS. ‘10RM-10’ was mixed ivory and apricot color. and showed vigorous growth.
4. Breeding goals were with good growth and high quality of cut flower under the low temperature. To make cross combination, we used over 100 parent varieties have low-temperature resistance and collected from 1997 to 2015. The lines of rose were selected from 2006 to 2010 and their characteristics of growth, flower color, stalk weight, stalk length and powery mildew under the low temperature in winter season were investigated in the vinyl house and glass house. 10 rose cultivar were released by GARES(Gyeonnggi-do Agriculture Research and Extension Services) from 2011 to 2015.These cultivars can be propagated by both cutting. The consumer's preference of these cultivars are relatively higher than that of control cultivar.
5. Development of rose(Rose hybrida Hort.) cultivars were developed by seeding and line selection at the Flower Research Institute, Gyeongnam ARES from 2006 to 2012. Characteristic trials of those cultivars were carried out three times from 2010 to 2015.‘Pinkmam’ was crossed between ‘Radsandra’ and ‘Dorothy’ and it had a Pink-Purple, few thorns and standard flower. The vase life of cut flower was 10.0 days. The major characteristics of this variety are 160.4 stems/㎡/year in yield, 75.3cm in cut flower, 10cm in flower diameter. ‘Orangequeuefixes’ was crossed between ‘Beach’ and ‘04RS16-14’ and it had a Orange, few thorns and spray flower. The vase life of cut flower was 10.0 days.The major characteristics of this variety are 191.4 stems/㎡/year in yield, 77.2cm in cut flower. ‘Pinkloti’ was crossed between ‘06RS10-153’ and ‘Elmscanlov’ and it had a Pink-Purple, few thorns and spray flower. The vase life of cut flower was 10.0 days. The major characteristics of this variety are 173.0 stems/㎡/year in yield, 76.5cm in cut flower, 6.0cm in flower diameter and 46.0 in petal number. ‘Peelhart’ was crossed between‘Noblesse’ and ‘Seatlan’ and it had a Red-Purple, few thorns and standard flower. The vase life of cut flower was 11.0 days. The major characteristics of this variety are 151.7 stems/㎡/year in yield, 80.5cm in cut flower, 9.5cm in flower diameter. ‘Silky’ was crossed between ‘Luckystar’ and ‘Radsandra’ and it had a Red-Purple, few thorns and standard flower. The vase life of cut flower was 10.0 days. The major characteristics of this variety are 167.0 stems/㎡/year in yield. ‘Selina’ was crossed between ‘Vital’ and‘Radsandra’ and it had a Red-Purple, few thorns and standard flower. The vase life of cut flower was 11.0 days. The major characteristics of this variety are 173.0 stems/㎡/year in yield ‘Redshine’ was crossed between ‘Noblesse’ and ‘Passion’ and it had a Red-Purple, few thorns and standard flower. The vase life of cut flower was 11.0 days.The major characteristics of this variety are 139.2 stems/㎡/year in yield, 87.0cm in cut flower, 11cm in flower diameter and 46.8 in petal number. This new cultivar can be planted in almost greenhouse production region of Korea and will be released to general farmers in 2011~2015.
6. This study was conducted to breed new aromatic cut rose variety for the domestic and export market. Breeding goals were had nice perfume as well as nice characteristics for production of cut rose flower. We had crossed 13,745 flowers in made 663 cross combination from 2011 to 2015, used over 80 parent varieties have both perfume and well characteristics were collecting from 2007 to 2014. Gained seeds were sowed lock-wool media for sowing after treatment of low temperature. And young plant of germination were transpotted in 3 inch vinyl pot for selected 1st time. Selected new rose lines were investigated in JARES green house for rose cultivation. As a result we made 165 lines of rose, evaluated their characteristics of growth, flower and level of perfume from 2011 to 2015. Finally 7 rose varieties were released by JARES from 2011 to 2014. These cultivars can be propagated by both cutting and grafting.
7. Breeding of new rose cultivar with viable under low light intensity This study was conducted to develop new rose cultivar which has viable under low light intensity and can be used for multipurpose. A series of works, such as cross, pedigree selection, and characteristics and performance test were performed from 2011 to 2015. Also, 30 lines and 230 lines were selected in the second and the first trials, respectively. 34,323 flowers of 1,208 cross combinations. Seed setting percentage was 21.8%. The first and second, and the third characteristics and performance test were took an experiment on 120 lines and 30 lines, respectively. Through appraisal of breeding line and official breeding council of agricultural crop, ten new roses included 'Lovely Heart', 'Pink shy' were selected and applied for a patent at Korea seed & variety service. Those new rose cultivars would contribute to save royalty as supplying to farmers after registering variety protection.
8. Breeding goals were with good growth and big flower diameter of cut flower for european export. To make cross combination, we used about 70 parent varieties have big flower diameter and high height from 2010 to 2015. The lines of rose were selected from their characteristics of growth and flower. 6 rose cultivar were released by Kynoss from 2011 to 2015. The consumer's preference of these cultivars are relatively higher than that of control cultivar.
9. Breeding goals were with small and medium flower diameter of cut flower for Japanese export. To make cross combination, we used over 100 parent varieties from 2010 to 2015. The lines of rose were selected from their flower and growth characteristics. 7 rose cultivar were released by Dowon rose garden from 2011 to 2015.
